Abstract Communities in dryland ecosystems face multiple stressors that threaten their livelihood resilience. While community resilience socio‐ecological systems is largely determined by access to and sustainable management of natural resources, the underlying mechanisms are still poorly understood. This study, which uses grounded theory integrated with discourse analysis, aims contribute addressing this knowledge gap. First, we explore global literature describing trends patterns various stressors—including climate change, frequent drought, famine, ecological, socio‐economic, institutional stressors—that impact these communities, goal summarizing how sustainability social‐ecological systems. Then, using development goals ( SDGs ) as a reference target, propose potential entry points support pathways. These include land, water, livestock agroforestry, social capital. Lastly, suggest an multi‐scalar pathway embedded cross‐sectorial policies differential cross‐social strategies towards combining targets. research can help stakeholders adapt mitigate impacts stressors, ultimately strengthening ecosystems.

This comprehensive review addresses the vital environmental concerns posed by conventional petroleum-based plastics, particularly in context of packaging industry’s extensive reliance on these materials. As nearly 99% plastics originate from non-renewable petrochemical sources and their non-biodegradable nature leads to widespread waste accumulation harmful emissions upon disposal, need for sustainable alternatives has become paramount. paper explores escalating health repercussions linked traditional underscored global initiatives, including restrictions single-use aimed at mitigating challenges. In response, highlights growing interest friendly biopolymers, which can be sourced renewable biological materials or synthesized biopolymers such as starch, casein etc. The classification into three primary categories; natural microbial fermentation-derived polymerized monomers biomass is comprehensively examined. Furthermore, emphasizes pivotal role biopolymer properties, barrier characteristics, mechanical strength, heat resistance, biodegradability, flexibility, food contact safety, cost-effectiveness, determining suitability applications. It also stresses importance conducting life cycle assessment (LCA) holistically evaluate sustainability biopolymers. potential integrating a promising avenue reduce adverse impact plastic production. These biodegradable materials, with diverse properties renewability, offer approach lowering greenhouse gas emissions. However, further research, development, collaborative efforts are essential optimize performance, production costs, facilitate broader adoption. Embracing polymers represents commitment resource efficiency, reduction, preservation, fostering more eco-friendly future.

The Guangxi Beibu Gulf Economic Zone (GBGEZ) and Guangdong–Hong Kong–Macao Greater Bay Area (GBA) have rich wetlands. However, long-term maps with detailed wetland types in these two regions are scarce, studies on the driving forces of changes insufficient. To this end, our study produced to explore dynamics their forces. From 1990 2020, mangrove, tidal flat, coastal shallow water reservoir had similar change trends metropolitan areas. For GBGEZ between serious degradation, slight obvious restoration areas 569.23 km2, 426.89 274.83 km2 375.78 respectively; for GBA, four 986.80 1854.63 547.34 2183.57 respectively. Overall, degradation GBA were significantly larger than that GBGEZ. Sample-based analysis indicated mainly attributed direct drivers, suffering more from influence drivers. Specifically, over 90 % degradations 89 restorations affected by drivers (e.g. aquaculture). The Brazilian semiarid region (BSR) has faced severe drought over the last three decades, which led to a significant decline in land productivity, posing considerable threat food security and local economy communities. United Nations Convention Combat Desertification (UNCCD) proposed use of Earth observation-derived vegetation indices for monitoring degradation across regions. In this study, we aim evaluate comprehensive UNCCD-recommended productivity dynamic (LPD) approaches BSR by utilizing standardized precipitation–evapotranspiration index (SPEI) at 12-month time scales as benchmark obtained from ground-based measurements. Our findings indicate that LPD methods residual trends analysis (RESTREND), Trends.Earth (TE), Food Agricultural Organization’s World Overview Conservation Approaches Technologies (FAO-WOCAT) are best suited identifying degraded areas compared other approaches. However, it is advisable these with caution, since they do not fully capture impact on may result underestimating extent areas. RESTREND-based LPD, TE, FAO-WOCAT estimate reached 213,248 km2, 248,075 246,783 km2 land, respectively, between 2001 2015. Evaluating the ecological vulnerability of northwestern region Liaoning Province, a typical ecologically vulnerable area in China, and exploring its inherent patterns help formulate effective measures for protection restoration. Existing studies this have focused on county, city, or provincial level, failing to capture overall vulnerability. Based "sensitivity-degradation" model framework, study employed Analytic Hierarchy Process, Principal Component Analysis, geographical detector methods evaluate Province from 2000 2022 analyzed possible driving factors. The results showed that, 2022, areas with moderate higher accounted an average 64.7% total area, while severely extremely 32.5%. These are mainly distributed along both banks Liuhe River northern part where it adjoins Horqin Sandy Land. From decreasing trend, proportion severe significantly 35.6% 8.6%. Abstract Land degradation, as a compound of processes that affect land resources worldwide, is notoriously difficult to assess. In Europe, the European Commission has been pressed by Court Auditors (ECA) invest in better understanding degradation and desertification within Union. World Atlas Desertification (WAD), convergence evidence (CoE) put forward an integration mechanism help focus attention on areas where human‐induced global change issues (LCIs) are putting pressure planetary boundaries, potentially leading degradation. Rather than trying map itself, CoE explores how many these simultaneously at play they occur. this study, we tailor framework Union through more appropriate selection regionally relevant LCIs finer input data. Our analysis draws Europe confronted with specific environmental challenges (e.g., Po Valley or Ruhr region) confirms mostly accumulate croplands urban areas. We found consistently coincide Sustainable Development Goal indicator (SDG 15.3.1, calculated using Trends.Earth tool), signals degrading status. However, our also shows stable improving status subject not considered indicator. therefore advise including other indicators trends when assessing while stressing link contextual knowledge remains necessary for final interpretation.
