ABSTRACT Natural social systems provide opportunities for human survival, living, and development, but such development may be of less benefit to farmers in low‐income remote rural settlements because they lack money complete infrastructure. Introducing the concept resilience can help explore potential areas add vitality realization high‐quality development. Currently, theoretical analyses systematic evaluations China's karst mountain area are still insufficient. In this study, based on ecosystem services (ESs) ecological thresholds, we calculated (ER). For dimension, measured (SR) using a assessment methodology developed by FAO. Afterward, study constructed framework, integrating SR ER, assess interactions between socioeconomic ecosystems. The shows that is better closer cities, while have ER. Rural close cities tend higher incomes educational than settlements. contrast, perform well terms forest natural ecology. Abstract Human activities and regional land development have considerably contributed to the degradation of ecosystems growing contradiction between supply demand ecosystem services (ESs) in Jiangsu Province, China. However, few studies applied a comprehensive approach elucidate patterns evolutionary characteristics ESs over long periods. This study investigated spatial–temporal evolution supply, demand, supply–demand relationships six individual Province from 2000 2020. It revealed key drivers changes relationship (CESSD) using geo‐detector model geographically temporally weighted regression address shortcomings previous studies. The results showed that at provincial level, CESSD presented surplus while state tended be imbalanced. At 1‐km 2 grid scale, spatial heterogeneity was obvious, with zones primarily distributed Taihu Lake watershed, hilly areas, riverside zones, watershed Hongze Gaoyou Lake, eastern coastal zone, deficit were mainly clustered areas concentrated contiguous construction land. From 2020, area increased 626 3257 km degree gradually deepened, socioeconomic factors having greatest influence on CESSD. Our findings reveal balance/imbalance human society natural ecology highlight need for effective management ecosystems.

Ecosystem services (ESs) are a key component of social-ecological system (SES). Exploring the spatial processes coastal ESs is great significance for promoting high-quality development zones. This study investigates patterns and their interrelationships, identifies driving mechanisms, subsequently offers sustainable management strategies. The major results reveal that (1) exhibit fluctuating growth trend (k = 0.017, R 2 0.175) from 2000 to 2022, but synergistic effects gradually weakening; Spatially, show pattern higher levels in south lower north, with significant north-south disparity; In future, slight upward (mean Hurst 0.516), southern region being stronger than those northern region. (2) more strongly influenced by social factors less affected natural factors. Natural have weak positive influence on ESs, while opposite true factors; Social exert nonlinear mechanism (3) demonstrate pronounced aggregation pattern, which can serve as basis partitioning. As result, we integrate local realities governance knowledge into planning support SES.

ABSTRACT Protecting cultivated land in China is crucial for both food security and ecological sustainability. However, research on protection from the perspective of ecosystem services (CESs) remains limited, particularly regarding assessment CESs, complex trade‐offs between them, identification their driving forces to inform policy‐making. This study develops a multi‐dimensional evaluation framework assess eight analyze dynamics trade‐offs, identify CES bundles, examine influencing factors Yangtze River Economic Belt (YREB), China. Results indicate that grain production exhibited steady increase over past two decades, with slight decline after 2015. Water conservation related fluctuated, initially declining, peaking 2015, then decreasing again. In contrast, landscape aesthetics consistently declined, while habitat maintenance improved 2000 2010 but weakened thereafter. Five pairs CESs maintained stable whereas some synergies diminished time. Seven distinct bundles were identified, reflecting site‐specific conditions support multifunctional management. Key negative affecting most included temperature, precipitation, elevation, urbanization rate, rural residents' disposable income, population density, primary industry share, road network density positively influenced several CESs. enriches analytical through an service lens offers insights policies such as trinity system land, natural resource asset assessment, degradation prevention.

Introduction Understanding the spatial and temporal variability of Ecosystem services (ES), along with trade-offs synergies among different services, is crucial for effective ecosystem management sustainable regional development. This study focuses on Wensu, Xinjiang, China, as a case to address these challenges. Methods ES their were systematically assessed from 1990 2020. Explainable machine learning models (XGBoost-SHAP) employed quantify nonlinear effects threshold trade-offs, specific attention identifying driving factors. Results (1) From 2020, water yield (WY) soil conservation (SC) exhibited an inverted "N"-shaped downward trend in Wensu County: mean annual WY decreased 22.99 mm 21.32 mm, SC per unit area declined 1440.28 t/km² 1351.3 t/km². Conversely, windbreak sand fixation (WS) showed increase 2.32×10⁷ t 3.11×10⁷ t. Habitat quality (HQ) initially improved then deteriorated, values 0.596, 0.603, 0.519, 0.507 sequentially. (2) Relationships between WY-WS, WY-HQ, WS-HQ, SC-WS, SC-HQ primarily tradeoffs, whereas WY-SC interactions synergistic. Trade-offs SC-HQ, WS-HQ stronger, while weaker. (3) The XGBoost-SHAP model revealed land use type (Land), precipitation (Pre), temperature (Tem) dominant drivers demonstrating responses effects. For instance, intensified when exceeded 17 thresholds governed WY-HQ trade-off/synergy transitions. Discussion advances identification trade-off drivers. model's interpretability capturing complexities clarifies mechanisms underlying dynamics. Findings are generalizable other ecologically vulnerable regions, offering critical insights strategies comparable environments.

Karst ecosystems have become complex social–ecological systems (SESs) as a result of the interventions large-scale ecological restoration programs, and ecosystem services (ESs) that provide regional well-being can, to some extent, be described system (S–ESs). Understanding relationships among multiple S–ESs exploring their drivers are essential for effective management in karst areas, especially regions differently affected by engineering programs. Taking South China (SCK) study area, we first identified two comparative boundaries, namely significant impact (SEERs) non-significant (NEERs). Then used ES assessment models, Spearman correlation, optimal parameter geographic detector identify supply capacity, trade-offs/synergies, six types SEERs NEERs. The findings included: (1) were predominantly concentrated central southern SCK regions, accounting 33.98% total with most distribution observed Guizhou Guangxi. (2) Within entire SCK, maintained relatively stable spatial pattern over time, pronounced increase soil conservation slight decrease water retention, S–ES hotspots more within SEERs. (3) Most pairs optimized synergistically, lower trade-off intensity higher synergy compared (4) interactions between natural socio-economic factors, land use changes playing crucial role, factors difficult predict but cannot ignored. Based on results, propose different SES sustainable development suggestions, view providing theoretical support optimization functions consolidating integrated construction.
