Functional zoning diversifies the management of grazing intensity within protected areas (PAs). However, complexity makes it difficult to assess and thus understand effectiveness PAs in reducing intensity. In this study, Madoi County, Yellow River source region, was evaluated based on mapping gridded livestock where permitted under measures functional zones. The then assessed by comparing changes non-PAs. Furthermore, contributions climate change activity vegetation were quantified using temperature (°C), precipitation (mm), (sheep units/ha), normalized difference index (NDVI) (a proxy cover) data. Subsequently, effects analyzed contribution inside outside PAs. results showed that average decreased 0.23 sheep units/ha, which higher than decrease non-PAs (0.07 units/ha) as expected. Specifically, core, buffer, experimental zones 0.36, 0.22, 0.14 respectively, any a greater reduction increase cover 12% PAs, indicating positive effect findings suggest establishment region are effective enhance role changes. Our research provides reference for analyzing with large-scale livestock.
