Abstract
Trivalent
chromium
(Cr
3+
)
is
an
attractive
near‐infrared
(NIR)
emitter,
but
its
ultrabroadband
NIR
emission
limited
to
host
crystals
containing
large
amounts
of
rare‐metal
elements
and
usually
suffers
from
low
internal
quantum
efficiency
(IQE)
poor
thermal
stability.
Here,
a
class
high‐performance,
rare‐metal‐free
phosphors,
are
reported
by
revealing
that
weak‐field
Cr
centers
featuring
broadband
with
near‐unity
IQEs
intrinsic,
though
in
trace
quantities,
doped
MgAl
2
O
4
spinel
(MAS)
derivatives
well‐known
for
their
narrowband
far‐red
emission.
It
shown
such
stem
cation
inversion
ubiquitous
compounds,
quantity
can
be
increased
simply
superstoichiometric
Al
3
/Ga
.
Then
SiO
introduced
into
‐excess
MAS
break
the
symmetry
greatly
improving
probabilities
otherwise
parity‐forbidden
d
–3
transitions.
The
as‐fabricated
phosphor‐converted
light‐emitting
diodes
capable
emitting
light
high
photoelectric
(16.0%)
optical
power
(180.8
mW),
excellent
spectral
stability,
which
apparently
outperforms
existing
state‐of‐the‐art
devices.
