The selective separation of structurally similar aliphatic/aromatic hydrocarbons is an essential goal in industrial processes. In this study, we report the synthesis a water-soluble (Tr2M3)4L4 (Tr = cycloheptatrienyl ring; M metal; L organosulfur ligand) molecular cage (1) via self-assembly acceptor tripalladium sandwich species [(Tr2Pd3)(CH3CN)][NO3]2 and attachment onto solubilizing methoxyethoxy appendants to be utilized energy-friendly alternative approach molecules under ambient conditions. Cage 1, comprising hydrophobic inner cavity, exhibited good solubility stability aqueous media. It also demonstrated excellent performance sequential alkanes (C6–C9), xylene, other disubstituted benzene isomers cis/trans-decalin.

In biological systems, many biomacromolecules (e.g., heme proteins) are capable of switching their states reversibly in response to external stimuli, endowing these natural architectures with a high level diversity and functionality. Although tremendous efforts have been made advance the complexity artificial supramolecules, it remains challenge construct metallo-supramolecular systems that can carry out reversible interconversion among multiple states. Here, pH-responsive tridentate ligand, 2,6-di(1H-imidazole-2-yl)pyridine (H2DAP), is incorporated into multitopic building block for precise construction giant hexagonal wreaths three metal ions, i.e., Fe(II), Co(II), Ni(II), through coordination-driven self-assembly. particular, Co-linked wreath enables situ four pH oxidant/reductant highly efficient conversion without losing structural integrity. During state cycles, physical properties assembled constructs finely tuned, including charge backbone, valency paramagnetic/diamagnetic features complexes. Such discrete structures charge-switchable backbone further facilitate layer-by-layer assembly metallo-supramolecules on substrate.

Fractal structures with self-similarity are of fundamental importance in the fields aesthetic, chemistry and mathematics. Here, by taking advantage constructs rational geometry-directed precursor design, we report construction two fascinating Platonic solids, Sierpiński tetrahedron ST-T octahedron ST-O, which each possesses a fractal triangle on their independent faces. These discrete complexes formed near-quantitative yield from multi-component self-assembly truncated triangular kernel L1 tribenzotriquinacene-based hexatopic anthracene-based tetratopic terpyridine ligands (L3 L4 ) presence metal ions, respectively. The enhanced stabilities 3D were investigated gradient tandem mass spectrometry (gMS2 ). This work provides new for imitation complex virus assemblies molecular encapsulation giant guest molecules.

In the past decades, many supramolecular cages with different sizes and shapes have been achieved through coordination-driven self-assembly. However, strategy of topology adjustment by using a steric hindrance effect has not fully developed. this Article, we report synthesis ligand LA rotatable arms, LB restricted their precisely controlled self-assembly to tetramer cage T1 dimer D1, respectively, under same conditions. By utilizing ligands, metallosupramolecular successfully adjusted. The metallocages were characterized NMR spectroscopy (1H, 13C, COSY, NOESY, DOSY), mass spectrometry (ESI-MS, TWIM-MS), transmission electron microscopy, atomic force microscopy. This synthetic method would potential be general for design diverse tunable shape, size, applicable properties.
