Investigating the impact of oxygen-enriched water combined with LED light on lettuce growth for two consecutive cycles is essential advancing greenhouse cultivation in Mediterranean climates, where summer heat poses significant challenges. This study investigates (O2EW) and lighting physiological, biochemical, responses cultivars across a controlled environment. The types, Lactuca sativa var. ‘Lollo Bionda’ (Lugano) Rosso’ (Carmesi), were cultivated employing Nutrient Film Technique (NFT) method within regulated setting. A randomized complete block design (RCBD) evaluated an NFT system under three treatments: natural (NW), (O2EW), O2EW (380–840 nm) (LED + O2EW). plants exposed to oxygen levels (NW) 6.2–7.4 mg L−1 first 7.4–8.1 second period. Under O2EW, reached 8.0–8.6 8.7–9.2 L−1, respectively, while concentrations 8.4–8.5 8.8–8.4 PPFD ‘Lugano’ ranged from 426 486 µmol m−2 s−1 cycle 437–511 second, averaging 448.66 460.65 s−1, respectively. For ‘Carmesi’, it 421 468 441 492.3 averages 438.66 457.1 s−1. Statistical analysis was performed using two-way ANOVA Tukey’s HSD test (p < 0.05) IBM SPSS Statistics (version 29.0.2.0). applied treatments significantly influenced plants’ physiological parameters, including photosynthetic rate, stomatal conductance, transpiration antioxidant activity. These also affected plant metrics such as height, diameter, mass, number leaves, root length, well biochemical components like chlorophyll, nitrate, glucose content. enhanced growth, components, parameters. Via comparative analysis, we concluded that overall performance approximately 21.18% higher compared when combining all attributes. showed stronger traits, ‘Carmesi’ excelled activity, especially treatment. Oxygen boosted photosynthesis both varieties, showing rates demonstrating greater cycle. In conclusion, enhance resilience, particularly warmer conditions, highlighting their potential support sustainable year-round cultivation.

Root crops typically develop and enlarge their storage organs in the soil, where they are naturally shielded from light exposure. This characteristic influences physiological development presents challenges for hydroponic cultivation, as taproot enlargement is often inhibited when submerged water. To overcome this limitation, study introduced a novel system that prevents direct submersion nutrient solution. By isolating taproots both soil solution, allows precise control of root-zone environment using LED irradiation. Carrot were cultivated under blue, green, red 42 days after sowing to assess specific responses different wavelengths. The results revealed distinct pigment accumulation patterns influenced by quality. Blue induced anthocyanin epidermis outer cortex within 2 exposure also stimulated chlorophyll synthesis these tissues. In contrast, green treatments promoted primarily stele, with having most pronounced effect. These findings suggest carrot exhibit exposure, demonstrating ability adjust biosynthesis depending on wavelength. integrating controlled lighting environments into systems, provides new insights root mechanisms strategy optimizing crop cultivation.
