Metabolic and bariatric surgery (MBS) is the most effective durable therapeutic intervention for patients with obesity. In recent years, laparoscopic sleeve gastrectomy (SG) has become commonly performed primary MBS procedure owing to its technical feasibility excellent short-term outcomes. Despite these favorable results perceived advantages, SG associated several unique complications. Complications such as a postoperative leak or bleeding have been more observed reported than others, their management approaches are well described. However, other complications following far less familiar surgeons, which may delay recognition result in poor patient Of complications, we describe splenic injuries; esophageal perforation; staple line malformations; stapling of intraluminal devices; phytobezoar formation; gastro-colic, gastro-pleural gastro-bronchial fistula; pancreatic leak; portomesenteric venous thrombosis. It paramount surgeons be aware underreported issues resources learn how recognize manage them when they arise. This review aims rare (i.e., incidence <1%) underdescribed after SG, focusing on causes, clinical presentation, prevention strategies, management.

Obesity is a major contributor to mortality in the United States. Clinical guidelines emphasize need for multimodal treatment, but novel treatments may be changing care-seeking behavior. To characterize obesity treatment access patterns and factors associated with care from 2010 2021 This multiyear cross-sectional study was conducted using Medical Expenditure Panel Survey (MEPS) data, covering respondents 2021. We defined individuals BMI ≥30 or those any health event linked diagnosis of as being clinically eligible treatment. The primary outcome proportion assumed who accessed were prescribed medication treat each calendar year population 82,729. In total, 1311 (1.6%) reported receiving obesity. participants prescription increased 0.3% (0.2%, 0.6%) 1.8% (1.3%, 2.5%) Multivariable logistic regression found that female individuals, older higher levels education had odds accessing Utilization pharmaceutical nonpharmaceutical has remains low. likelihood lower groups socioeconomic status. As more effective therapies become available, efforts should made ensure equitable access.

Background: The prevalence of obesity is already a worldwide health concern. development straightforward guidelines regarding the whole available armamentarium (i.e., medical, endoscopic, and surgical interventions in conjunction with guidance program) paramount to offering best multimodal approach patients obesity. Methods: International Federation for Surgery Obesity Metabolic Disorders-European Chapter (IFSO-EC) identified panel experts develop present guidelines. formulated series clinical questions (based on patient, intervention, comparison, outcome conceptual framework), which have been voted approved. A GRADE methodology will be applied assess quality evidence formulate recommendations employed minimize selection information biases. This aims enhance reliability validity recommendations, promoting greater adherence evidence. Results: These are intended adult body mass index (BMI) ≥ 30 kg/m2 who candidates metabolic bariatric surgery (MBS). expert responsible developing these comprised 25 panelists (92% were surgeons) 3 reviewers, an average age 50.1 ± 10.2 years. focused key combined use structured lifestyle interventions, approved management medications, endoscopic weight loss procedures MBS.
