Abstract This paper explores the critical role of spatiality and scale in industrial ecology (IE) research to promote circularity within built environment. Traditional IE frameworks are predominantly a‐spatial a‐political, overlooking complex socio‐ecological–technological dynamics urban–regional environments. gap limits development holistic assessments effective strategies for circularity, often externalizing political, economic, societal implications. In this paper, we emphasize need integrate diverse spatial entities, such as social actors, natural resources, infrastructure, into frameworks. Drawing on recent developments community (including insights from ISIE 2023 conference) demonstrate how multiple spatialities politics already integral several areas practice, accounting symbiosis. We highlight concepts—such urbanization patterns, geographic features, territory, place, actor‐networks—reveal context‐specific drivers barriers circular transformation. then leverage concept scales established across sciences introduce a typology relevant IE, identify which types have yet be operationalized research. Given potential analytical yield each type, advocate reflective multi‐scalar approach incorporate Ultimately, call turn re‐conceptualizing tools support transformation environment toward circularity.
