Palestinians have long been using social media as a tool for activism. Each platform provides unique socio-technological affordances that shape users’ communicative practices networked publics. Focusing on the video-sharing TikTok, which has taken “serious turn” in recent years, this article examines how Palestinian users performed playful acts of resistance during escalation violence between and Israelis May 2021. Though news representations of protest have been studied extensively, little is known about how media audiences critique such representations. Focusing on TikTok as a space for criticism, this article examines users employ the app to respond in mainstream media. Content collected spring 2021 illuminated two very distinct foci discussion protest: Black Lives Matter movement and Capitol riot. Social media users have long been aware of opaque content moderation systems and how they shape platform environments. On TikTok, creators increasingly utilize algospeak to circumvent unjust restriction, meaning, change or invent words prevent TikTok’s algorithm from banning their video (e.g., “le$bean” for “lesbian”). We interviewed 19 TikTok about motivations practices using in relation experience with moderation. The TikTok platform has become widely popular among younger generations and influenced various industries aspects of life. This systematic literature review, using bibliometric methods, aims to examine the evolution research from its initial development current status. A total 402 journal articles 2019 2022 were systematically selected Web Science Core Collection. Descriptive statistical analysis identified most contributing academic institutions, nations, journals, scholars, influential studies. Research examining radical visual communication and its manifestation on the trending platform TikTok is limited. This paper presents a novel methodological framework for studying mobilization strategies of far-right groups TikTok, employing mixed-method approach that combines manual annotation, unsupervised image classification, named-entity recognition to analyze dynamics visuals at scale.
