The treatment of oropharyngeal cancer has undergone many paradigms shifts in recent decades. First considered a surgical disease, improvements radiotherapy led to its popularization the 1990s. Subsequently, discovery human papillomavirus (HPV) pathogenesis cancer, as well increase HPV-associated oropharynx incidence, have prompted reevaluation management. Its sensitivity standard with favorable prognosis compared non focus on minimizing toxicity. Advances radiation and techniques, including use transoral robotic surgery, gave rationale ongoing de-escalation clinical trials cancer.

Cancer patients often experience changes in mental health, prompting an exploration into whether nerves infiltrating tumors contribute to these alterations by impacting brain functions. Using a mouse model for head and neck cancer neuronal tracing, we show that tumor-infiltrating connect distinct areas. The activation of this circuitry altered behaviors (decreased nest-building, increased latency eat cookie, reduced wheel running). Tumor-infiltrating nociceptor neurons exhibited heightened calcium activity regions receiving neural projections showed elevated Fos as well responses compared non-tumor-bearing counterparts. genetic elimination decreased expression mitigated the behavioral induced presence tumor. While analgesic treatment restored nesting cookie test behaviors, it did not fully restore voluntary running indicating pain is exclusive driver such shifts. Unraveling interaction between tumor, nerves, pivotal developing targeted interventions alleviate health burdens associated with cancer.

The rise in human papillomavirus (HPV)-associated oropharyngeal squamous cell carcinoma (OPSCC) has prompted a quest for further understanding of the role high-risk HPV tumor initiation and progression. Patients with HPV-positive OPSCC (HPV+ OPSCC) have better prognoses than their HPV-negative counterparts; however, current therapeutic strategies HPV+ are overly aggressive leave patients life-long sequalae poor quality life. This highlights need customized treatment. Several clinical trials treatment de-intensification to reduce acute late toxicity without compromising efficacy been conducted. article reviews differences similarities pathogenesis progression HPV-related compared cervical cancer, emphasis on prophylactic vaccines as potential strategy. Overall, future development novel effective agents HPV-associated head neck tumors promises meet challenges posed by this growing epidemic.

Objectives: This study aimed to examine the relationship between health-related quality of life (HRQoL) and sociodemographic clinical variables in survivors head neck cancer (HNC) treated with radiotherapy, or without surgery. Materials Methods: HRQoL was measured using functional assessment therapy—head (FACT-H&N) a cross-sectional survey involving 150 patients. Of these, 60 had nasopharyngeal (NPC), exclusively while 90 oral cavity squamous cell (OSCC), undergoing radical surgery followed by adjuvant radiotherapy. Key included type, age, gender, partnership status, education, employment, additional assessed patients OSCC. Statistical analyses multiple regression, ANOVA, t-tests explore relationships HRQoL. Results: Cancer surgical treatment, employment status emerged as significant independent predictors HNC Patients NPC reported better on three FACT-H&N subscales—social/family well-being, concerns—compared Unemployed individuals exhibited lower four subscales. In OSCC, segmental mandibulectomy were found predict independently. Conclusions: concludes that intervention, notably influence among addition, is key factor affecting

Abstract Objective To characterize neighborhood‐level area deprivation's association with oropharyngeal carcinoma clinicodemographics, tumor staging, recurrence, and overall survival. Study Design Retrospective study. Setting Single institution academic medical center. Methods Patients diagnosed squamous cell (OPSCC) between 2007 2022 at our were included in this The Area Deprivation Index (ADI) was used to quantify disadvantage based on patients’ primary residence the time of their diagnosis. Continuous variables compared groups using Wilcoxon rank sum test. For categorical variables, proportions Fisher's exact Overall survival (OS) recurrence‐free (RFS) distributions estimated Kaplan‐Meier method log‐rank OS RFS further assessed by univariable multivariable analyses performed Cox proportional hazards model. Results higher ADI (more disadvantaged) group consisted a significantly greater proportion Black race ( P < .001), 10+ pack‐year smoking history = .003), Medicare patients .018). On logistic regression analysis, neither nor other social factors associated increased likelihood advanced clinical staging p16 positive OPSCC population. Furthermore, while did not correspond significant differences survival, multivariate cox model demonstrated that “Other” insurance type (Medicaid uninsured) (hazard ratio [HR] 10.1, .008), age diagnosis (1.10, (HR 3.25, .004) all HR death. Conclusion While may be outcomes HPV‐related patients, study revealed sociodemographic risk factor across ADIs, as well individual influencing prognosis. These findings emphasize need for comprehensive approach understanding incidence

Method Studies of the development or evaluation eHealth, telemedicine telemonitoring tool were eligible. A narrative synthesis was performed per Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Review Meta-Analyses reporting guidelines. Results Twenty-nine studies identified. Nine randomised, controlled trials but most had concern bias. Fourteen (48 cent) used multiple modes delivery. The primary functions symptom tracking self-care, prehabilitation rehabilitation, psychological support, education, including decision aids. Most aimed support during active treatment. Conclusion There a small number patients; however, there lack well-designed demonstrate effectiveness.
