ABSTRACT Gene‐edited foods can contribute to adequate and nutritious food alleviate the challenge of feeding a growing population under severe constraints imposed by climate change land use. However, genetically engineered (GE) R&D, knowledge source for gene‐edited that focuses on commercial gains neglects sustainability outcomes, cannot be expected achieve longer‐term public good. To represent R&D outputs, we examined GE foods–related patents' abstracts, where found negligible mentions outcomes. correct embedding sustainability, through network analysis current ultimate parents co‐assignees, profiled past collaborations capable creating their research inclinations. On investigating entity types involved directly indirectly in these collaborations, observed near‐omnipresence national policy bodies institutes. Based insights superimposed prevailing socio‐technological conditions, proposed sustainability‐focused directions.

This paper evaluates the U.S. regulatory review of three emerging biotechnology products according to parameters, practices, and endpoints assessments that are important stakeholders publics. First, we present a summary literature on variables non-expert publics in governing biotech products, including ethical, social, policy process, risk benefit parameters. Second, draw from our USDA-funded project results surveyed with subject matter expertise about their attitudes towards risk, benefit, sustainability, societal impact parameters for assessing novel agrifood technologies, biotech. Third, evaluate food agricultural case studies have been reviewed under agencies laws Coordinated Framework Regulation Biotechnology, gene-edited soybeans, beef cattle, mustard greens. Evaluation process was based identified steps 1 2 which were deemed both stakeholders. Based this review, then propose several options federal strengthen oversight processes better align broader range support sustainable rely technologies. These include 1) those would not require new institutions or legal foundations (such as conducting Environmental Impact Statements and/or requiring minimal level safety data), 2) institutional cross-institutional framework developing publicly-available website performing holistic sustainability assessments), 3) additional authorities set health, environmental, socio-economic parameters). Overall, analysis will be guiding practice formulation assessment challenge existing frameworks.

The acceptance of genetically modified (GM) crops is still a controversial topic that presents major obstacles to their general use. Few studies, nevertheless, have emphasized the use artificial intelligence (AI) in forecasting dangers GM crops. This review delves into emerging field applying AI forecast hazards linked and examines how it could increase public products. algorithms, predictive modeling approaches examine enormous datasets include genetic, environmental, agronomic factors. Utilizing AI, researchers may accelerate risk assessment procedures on safety effectiveness In addressing concerns skepticism, AI-generated assessments foster transparency confidence among consumers, regulators, stakeholders, thereby might fostering greater Although lack available data genetic modifications or developing crop varieties, amount training validation needed for algorithms before they can be trusted, complexity models, ethical issues about like privacy algorithm bias, present difficulties precise AI-driven assessment. outlines recent developments future directions utilizing as promising strategy enhance acceptability
