Abstract Nesidiocoris tenuis (Reuter) (Heteroptera Miridae) is a key biological control agent of the tomato leaf miner Tuta absoluta (Meyrick). However, in cases prey scarcity, this predator switches into phytophagous pest causing ring injuries stems plants. The aim study was to assess side effects dry residues and explore presence target site resistance mutations 10 insecticides, two bioinsecticides, an acaricide fungicide widely applied IPM, on adults N. collected from different regions Crete; Western Eastern island during successive years. Lethal toxicity trials were performed sprayed recorded 2 h, 7 14 days after exposure. At both populations, chlorpyrifos, acetamiprid thiamethoxam moderately harmful at application day slightly application. Only chlorpyrifos maintained its for more than days. All rest tested pesticides (emamectin benzoate, abamectin, chlorantraniliprole+abamectin, chlorantraniliprole, deltamethrin, tebufenpyrad, spinosad, Bacillus thuringiensis var kurstaki , metaflumizone myclobutanil) classified as harmless. Additionally, analysis insecticide sequences indicated absence populations. Overall, our findings illustrate impact 15 their residual mortality rates adults.

Abstract Future trajectories of agricultural productivity need to incorporate environmental targets, including the reduction pesticides use. Landscape features supporting natural pest control (LF-NPC) offer a nature-based solution that can serve as partial substitute for synthetic pesticides, thereby future levels. Here, we introduce novel approach quantify contribution LF-NPC yields and its associated economic value crop production in broad-scale context. Using European Union case study, combine granular farm-level data, spatially explicit map potential, regional agro-economic supply market model. The results reveal farms located areas characterized by higher potential experience lower losses context reduced Our analysis suggests reduces yield gaps on average four percentage points, increases income similar magnitude. These highlight significance income, provide valuable reference point farmers policymakers aiming successfully invest landscape achieve targets.

Abstract Zoophytophagous hemipteran predators provide relevant biological control services and their applications are consolidated in greenhouse pest management. The use of plant essential oils (EOs) for sustainable crop protection is being currently promoted. However, further knowledge the potential side effects EOs on predatory mirids (Hemiptera: Miridae) required. Here, we evaluated non-target impact four (anise, fennel, garlic lavender) generalist predator Nesidiocoris tenuis (Reuter) laboratory. baseline toxicity was firstly assessed N. adults following topical contact exposure. Then, reproduction orientation behavior tested exposure to three estimated EO lethal concentrations (LC 1 , LC 10 30 ). Garlic had lowest LCs (e.g., 1.34 mg mL −1 ), thus most toxic compound among EOs. s lavender, anise fennel were 2.75, 4.55 5.17 respectively. fertility females negatively affected by all at highest concentration. Nevertheless, caused no sublethal . Our findings suggest that careful attention should be given when used combination with management programs.

The development of effective control strategies targeting non-native ambrosia beetles (Coleoptera: Curculionidae: Scolytinae and Platypodinae) represents an emerging challenge. This is due both to their rapid spread into climatically suitable newly invaded regions rich in susceptible host plants the limited knowledge concerning sustainable management tools. In this context, use botanical insecticides, such as plant essential oils (EOs), considered a promising option Integrated Pest Management (IPM) alternative conventional insecticides for crop protection. Here, impact five EO nanoemulsions (Rosmarinus officinalis L. cultivar verbenone, Carlina acaulis L., Laurus nobilis Cupressus sempervirens Betula alba L.) on choice behavior, colonization progeny production by invasive beetle Xylosandrus compactus (Eichhoff) was evaluated under laboratory semi-field conditions. chemical composition tested EOs firstly means gas chromatography-mass spectrometry (GC-MS) analyses. Then, were prepared characterized through dynamic light scattering (DLS). Tested showed single or bimodal droplet size distributions nanometric range. Results highlighted significant repellent activity R. cv. verbenone C. (at 3% concentration). However, trend repellence against not confirmed at decreasing concentrations (i.e., 1% 0.5%). Nanoemulsions based significantly affected choices regardless concentration. Indeed, no bioassays, lower number individuals started infesting stems treated with these nanoemulsions. On other hand, effect treatment found offspring produced survived females. Overall, our findings provide new insights toward repellents X. compactus, suggesting future incorporation non-chemical strategies, 'push-pull', part IPM packages pest.

Agricultural practices account for approximately 13.5% of all human greenhouse gas emissions and are a significant driver land-use change. As result, natural soil fertility has been dramatically reduced, impacting agricultural productivity, the environment, health. New technologies, such as green can address these challenges by adjusting practices. This paper reviews recent research on climate-mitigating in agronomic cropping systems, to show how they affect crops, pests, beneficial arthropods. Botanical extracts, in particular essential oils (EOs), could be the ideal candidates for development of biopesticides as an alternative to synthetic pesticides. However, some limitations EOs (high flammability, volatility, degradability, poor solubility water) prevent their use under real operational conditions. Nanotechnologies are useful tools overcome above-mentioned these natural substances. Furthermore, encapsulation nano-delivery systems (nanoparticles and nano-emulsions) can improve functional properties EOs. In this context, study aimed develop a highly stable, concentrated garlic nano-emulsion (15%) evaluate acute toxicity with different exposure routes towards Planococcus citri its predator Cryptolaemus montrouzieri. First, EO was used (15% EO; 5% Tween 80; 80% using high-pressure microfluidizer; then both crude were chemically investigated by Solid Phase Microextraction-Gas Chromatography-Mass Spectrometry (SPME-GC-MS) technique. The physically characterized dynamic light scattering analysis over time (24 h, 3 months 1 year after preparation) bioassays involving target non-target organisms. Results showed that consisted 95% sulphur compounds diallyl disulphide most abundant component, developed remained stable even year, droplets' dimension within nanometric range (221.4 nm). nano-formulation effective against pest 48 h from treatment (Direct: LC90 = 0.967%; Indirect: 1.088%), while it had no effect on C. These promising results highlight potential garlic-based environmentally friendly insecticide control.
