Ontogenetic Analysis of Chelonus formosanus and Diversity of Its Internal Microbiota

Chelonus
formosanus
is
a
parasitic
wasp
capable
of
parasitizing
various
Noctuidae
pests,
including
the
highly
invasive
Spodoptera
frugiperda,
and
it
demonstrates
strong
pest
control
potential.
Both
egg
larval
stages
primarily
occur
within
host
organism,
total
developmental
time
from
to
adult
approximately
19.62
days.
To
investigate
microbial
communities
at
different
stages,
we
performed
16S
rDNA
sequencing
(V1–V9
region)
using
PacBio
identified
404
bacterial
species
belonging
61
classes,
116
orders,
182
families,
308
genera
across
larval,
pupal,
female,
male
stages.
Bacterial
diversity
richness
varied
with
Enterobacter
Enterococcus
dominating
in
larvae
pupae
Pseudomonas
emerging
as
dominant
female
adults.
In
contrast,
adults
predominantly
resided
Ralstonia
Achromobacter.
The
predicted
functions
bacteria
C.
are
marked
by
high
abundance
metabolic
pathways.
This
study
provides
comprehensive
understanding
morphology
contributes
practical
pests.
Additionally,
our
findings
preliminarily
characterized
community
laying
groundwork
for
its
functional
study.

Summary
Pathogen
infection
in
host
plants
can
alter
the
attraction
and
adaptability
of
herbivorous
insects.
Female
adult
insects
often
exhibit
selective
behaviours
based
on
their
environmental
experiences,
enabling
offspring
to
avoid
adverse
conditions
ensuring
healthy
growth
development.
However,
comprehensive
studies
integrating
both
perspectives
fitness
plant
validate
significance
such
parental
‘Mother
knows
worst’
experiences
remain
limited.
Building
our
previous
findings
that
female
Conogethes
punctiferalis
(Yellow
peach
moth,
YPM)
adults
oviposition
avoidance
behaviour
towards
corn
infected
with
Trichoderma
asperellum
,
we
further
confirmed
by
T.
significantly
inhibits
development
YPM
larvae.
Feeding
decreases
larval
gut
microbiota
diversity,
core
abundance
led
differential
expression
key
genes
juvenile
hormone
metabolic
pathway.
Moreover,
content
flavonoid
wogonin,
a
secondary
metabolite,
was
increased
corn.
In
vitro
feeding
experiments
revealed
wogonin
negatively
impacts
causing
accumulation
suppressing
microbial
strains.
This
study
validates
adaptive
empiricism
from
perspective
offspring,
while
elucidating
mechanisms
which
microbial‐mediated
resistance
against
insects,
as
well
for
exploring
utilizing
effective
biocontrol
resources
YPMs.

Host Species Affects Gut Microbial Community and Offspring Developmental Performances in the Pupal Parasitoid Chouioia cunea Yang (Hymenoptera: Eulophidae)

Chouioia
cunea
are
known
to
exploit
in
varying
degrees
a
wide
range
of
lepidopteran
species
and
its
offspring
development
may
vary
with
host
species.
This
study
examined
preimaginal
larval
gut
microbiota
parasitizing
five
folivorous
hosts
including
Hyphantria
(referred
thereafter
as
CcHc),
Antherea
pernyi
(CcAp),
Helicoverpa
armigera
(CcHa),
Spodoptera
exigua
(CcSe),
frugiperda
(CcSf).
Though
rates
parasitism
eclosion
did
not
change
species,
the
period
number
eclosed
varied
hosts,
shortest
CcSf
highest
from
CcAp.
For
microbiota,
though
phylum
Proteobacteria
was
dominant
for
attacking
CcAp,
Firmicutes
so
other
hosts.
All
microbial
genera
except
Enterococcus
were
less
abundant
than
The
database-based
predictions
indicate
significant
positive
correlation
between
Cutibacterium
Aureimonas
relative
wasp
emergence,
while
Blastomonas
exhibits
strong
association
developmental
period.
Our
results
imply
potential
relevance
community
larvae
attacked
by
C.
cunea.
