ABSTRACT Shade‐grown coffee farming supports biodiversity and generates additional sustainability outcomes, though the drivers of this approach are poorly understood. Previous research on has focused producers or consumers, potentially overlooking role retailers in commodity supply chains. We conducted semi‐structured interviews with 19 traders, roasters Melbourne, Australia to understand their purchasing decisions, initiatives underlying motivations. Our findings indicate that occupy a critical point chain from which leverage transformations: they can support sustainable approaches at origin, partnership farmers other actors, whilst also undertaking consumer end chain, thereby exerting bidirectional influence Place‐based environmental were especially likely be implemented by large multinational traders independent operating purpose‐driven business models aim deliver positive environmental, social economic outcomes for all stakeholders. Behaviour change interventions should target global chains outcomes.

Given the challenges of climate change, effective adaptation strategies for crops like coffee are crucial. This study evaluated twelve 1-aminocyclopropane-1-carboxylate deaminase-producing bacterial strains selectively isolated from rhizosphere Coffea arabica L. cv. Costa Rica 95 in a plantation located Veracruz, Mexico, focusing on their potential to enhance drought resistance. The strains, representing seven genera Gamma-proteobacteria and Bacteroidota groups, were characterized growth-promoting traits, including ACC deaminase activity, indole-3-acetic acid (IAA) synthesis, phosphates solubilization, siderophore production, nitrogen fixation. Strains genus Pantoea exhibited higher phosphate IAA while others, such as Sphingobacterium Chryseobacterium, showed limited plant traits. A pot experiment was conducted with plants subjected either full irrigation (soil 85% volumetric water content) or 55% conditions, along inoculation strains. Plants inoculated sp. RCa62 demonstrated improved growth metrics physiological traits under drought, leaf area, relative content (RWC), biomass, root development compared uninoculated controls. Similar results observed Serratia RCa28 RCa31 conditions. superior stress, contributing overall development. Proline accumulation significantly drought-stressed, non-inoculated those RCa62. research highlights resilience underscores need field application further validation these bioinoculants sustainable agricultural practices.

ABSTRACT The performance of soil organic carbon (SOC) sequestration should be verified by detecting changes in SOC stock (Mg kg −1 ) at certain depths (cm), which are governed increases (OC) content (%) associated with reduced bulk density (BD, g cm −3 ). In the present study, to evaluate stock, OC and BD datasets from samples obtained five coffee farms (i.e., YT, RL, SY, ZW ZJ) western central Taiwan were used for illustration. correlation coefficient r XY(all) −0.85) indicated a highly significant negative between ( p < 0.0001) overall farming area. At 0–20, 20–40 40–60 cm, horizonal distributions across showed that coefficients XY(layer) −0.92, −0.80 − 0.91, respectively. values can priority obtain unbiased mean estimates stock: . exact variances , respectively, prevented error propagation estimation > 50%. addition, both resulted lower minimum detectable differences. Thus, increase could effective sequestration. According “4 per 1000 Initiative,” certify 0.4% year coffee‐growing region, 4% over 10 years rate 4%.
