Abstract Amidst the rapid urbanisation and increasing calls for sustainable development, this study examines key drivers barriers influencing smart city initiatives in Nigeria. By employing a quantitative approach, research amalgamates insights from diverse professionals, integrating descriptive statistics, exploratory factor analysis, Spearman rank correlation analysis to illuminate intricate landscape of development within Nigerian context. The findings underscore interconnected nature various factors, underscoring imperative an all‐encompassing approach that synergistically incorporates infrastructure integration, environmental sustainability, efficient governance, social inclusivity, economic innovation. Furthermore, identifying specific barriers, including challenges related integrated urban transformation, socioeconomic equity, governance infrastructure, highlights critical need precise interventions surmount these obstacles. implications recommendations derived emphasise pivotal role collaborative endeavours among stakeholders, accentuating significance inclusive decision‐making processes, practices, equitable expansion. gleaned serve as invaluable resource policymakers planners, providing robust groundwork informed policy formulation strategic planning guide Nigeria other developing nations.

Purpose The main objective of this study is to evaluate the driving forces behind adoption indoor environmental quality (IEQ) principles in building designs from perspectives Nigerian quantity surveying firms. Design/methodology/approach A quantitative approach was used which involved administering a well-structured questionnaire sample 114 surveyors. collected data were analyzed using various statistical methods, including frequencies, percentages, mean item scores, Kruskal–Wallis test and exploratory factor analysis. Findings top five ranked drivers climate change mitigation, conservation natural resources, reduction waste pollution, use sustainable materials development new systems. Based on analysis, identified clusters drivers: (1) health well-being (2) economic (3) (4) innovation technology (5) regulatory drivers. Practical implications findings suggest that effectively integrate IEQ principles, firms should consider developing comprehensive guidelines checklists align with clustered categories. These resources can serve as practical tools for project teams, facilitating structured holistic incorporation factors throughout lifecycle. Originality/value study’s identification subsequent clustering these into distinct categories contributes existing body knowledge IEQ. This provides framework comprehensively understanding influencing adoption, offering valuable tool researchers, policymakers industry practitioners.

Purpose The construction industry faces public criticism for issues like wastefulness, inefficiency, slim profits, scheduling setbacks, budget overruns, quality concerns, trust deficits, transparency, coordination, communication and fraud. This paper aims to assess the nexus between barriers drivers adopting blockchain in its impact on lifecycle. Design/methodology/approach A quantitative research approach was used collect data using a well-structured questionnaire survey. survey, which snowball sampling, included 155 Nigerian experts that architects, builders, quantity surveyors engineers built environment. were analysed partial least squares structural equation modelling (PLS-SEM), allowed thorough evaluation of proposed relationships as well industry-specific insights. The implementation of energy economics principles (EEPs) in sustainable construction and environmental mitigation is widely acknowledged. However, limited research has focused on the hindrances faced implementing these context developing countries. To address this gap, study examines from perspective professionals Nigerian industry. Existing were extracted extant studies using systematic literature review with predefined inclusion/exclusion criteria which helped formulate questionnaire. Through application exploratory factor analysis, five clusters hindrance factors identified, encompassing financial constraints, inadequate policies regulations, insufficient technological infrastructure, lack awareness education stakeholder-related challenges. Furthermore, multinomial regression analysis confirmed that related to regulations infrastructure are most significant barriers. This advances scientific knowledge adoption EEPs building projects, providing a comprehensive understanding challenges Findings will inform policymakers, industry other stakeholders about key require attention intervention, facilitating development targeted strategies initiatives overcome barriers effectively.

Purpose Recognizing the importance of sustainable development, environmental economic practices have gained significant attention globally as effective measures to mitigate degradation and promote resource conservation. Therefore this study identifies evaluates barriers hindering implementation in Nigerian construction industry. Design/methodology/approach A quantitative research approach, utilizing a well-structured questionnaire, was employed collect data from professionals. The Shapiro-Wilk normality test utilized assess data, while Kruskal-Wallis H-test investigate potential differences opinions among various categories respondents. Subsequently, exploratory factor analysis conducted identify underlying patterns relationships within collected data. Findings top five were: prioritization short-term financial gain over long-term benefits, inefficient unreliable energy supply systems, inadequate disposal management waste, insufficient funding investment high costs associated with practices. Furthermore, four critical clusters were revealed, which are regulatory-related, economic-related, technical logistical-related knowledge-related. Practical implications These can guide policymakers, industry professionals educators developing tailored strategies overcome each specific category, fostering more holistic approach toward sector. Originality/value findings compared results similar cases Iran, China New Zealand provide cross-cultural perspective on challenges faced by different regions. Purpose Adopting sustainable building materials (SBMs) is one way to reduce the negative environmental impacts of built environment. However, adoption SBMs not as high expected. This study aims investigate which factors affect SBMs. Design/methodology/approach A literature review and discussions with professional practitioners formed an initial list variables affecting readiness adopt questionnaire survey was designed, data from industrial were collected using snowball sampling method. The 218 respondents analyzed PLS-SEM technique. Findings findings show that SBM critically influenced by at different levels (market, organization, employee). Specifically, market enhances organization preparedness (beta = 0.628), positively affects employee 0.510). Market, impact 0.386, 0.364, 0.158, respectively).
