This study analyzed the interactions between efficiency, productivity, and policy of recyclable materials recovery in municipal solid waste (MSW) services Brazil, using data from National Sanitation Information System (SNIS) for 199 MSWs, encompassing a balanced longitudinal panel 2013 to 2022. In this context, employed dynamic slacks-based measure (DSBM) model assess intertemporal efficiency productivity MSWs. is an additive extension traditional envelopment analysis, as it does not focus solely on overall operators. Additionally, multiple correspondence analysis (MCA), independent sample tests, generalized estimating equations (GEE) were utilized identify potential among variables interest. The main contribution lies its considering indirect influence operating expenses carry-over, which impacts continuity across periods. Insights results indicated average 61.9% accumulated loss over period. exhibited negative interaction with both MSW operators performing selective collection technological advancement systems. underscores importance integrating field within circular economy framework fostering recycling initiatives. Factors such population density, gross domestic product (GDP), COVID-19 pandemic influenced and, certain aspects, productivity. findings provide insights suggesting that policymakers regulatory agencies should consider these enhance eco-efficiency eco-productivity policies, particularly alignment Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) current Brazilian legislation.

Waste is a global problem of modern society. generation intimately related to country's economic activity level and reflects societal manufacturing consuming habits. A decrease in the amount garbage produced per unit GDP indicates that shifting into fewer material-intensive methods. The chapter focuses on sustainable waste management Western Balkans European Union, using Serbia (as country represents Balkan region) Austria representative county Union) as examples. authors will evaluate development comparison with excellent long-term practice Austria, desire example good sustainability also applied less developed economies Europe.

Abstract The management of package waste has become a critical concern in pursuing sustainable development, particularly within the European context, where environmental regulations and sustainability goals are stringent. This paper presents comprehensive strategic efficiency analysis packaging across Europe, examining current practices, policies, technological innovations sample countries. work identifies challenges opportunities sector using Data Envelopment Analysis Multicriteria decision analysis. Our findings reveal significant variations effectiveness practices among countries, influenced by differing policy frameworks, recycling infrastructures, public awareness levels. Sweden Luxembourg excel technical model for recycling, while Austria prevails recovery both. vision suggests an emphasis on green premium, most alternatives those marked natural fibres respect human conditions. concludes with recommendations policymakers, industry stakeholders, communities to enhance efficiency. These include harmonisation at EU level, investment innovative technologies, fostering public–private partnerships drive systemic change. By adopting these strategies, Europe can move closer achieving its targets, reducing impact, promoting circular economy. So, implications this both political. former is related identifying best strategy waste, latter uniform Europe.
