Abstract The post‐Miocene climatic history of arid environments in South America has been identified as a key driver dispersal and diversification, particularly among plant groups such Cactaceae. Despite their iconic status, many cactus genera remain poorly understood, comprehensive taxonomic systematic revisions using morphological genomic data are complex time‐consuming, resulting few studies to date. Here we present study the genus Austrocactus , currently with 10 accepted species native southern Andean Argentina parts Chile. is based on an extensive sampling covering both overall range diversity genus. We used ddRADseq approach phylogenetic relationships incorporating 44 individuals representing all morphospecies, widespread represented by several samples geographical spectrum. were analyzed maximum likelihood multispecies coalescence‐based models, well principal component analyses, providing well‐supported robust evolutionary framework. Based data, propose revised classification genus, total 17 species, 5 which described new. also provide updated infrageneric two subgenera three sections, circumscription including descriptions respective key. Finally, suggest specific research directions focused integrating ecological modeling complement our work enhance biogeographic understanding these species.

Abstract Phacelia sect. Glandulosae , with ca. 62 taxa, is the most diverse of 11 sections genus (Hydrophyllaceae). The family largely restricted to North and Central America, but has an amphitropical distribution nine species reported from western South five which have been assigned P . These are found in arid semi‐arid Andean habitats between 1000 5000 m a.s.l. Species delimitation long confounded for this plant group America by some degree taxonomic chaos – lack typifications, dozens synonyms, different names used same taxon countries poor representation molecular phylogenies. Here, we try improve our understanding employing a ddRADseq strategy investigate phylogenetic relationships all American representatives based on total 33 sampled specimens. Both maximum likelihood tree inference analyses data resulted well‐resolved topology. All currently recognized form highly supported monophylum including P. nana previously considered as belonging Euglypta However, morphospecies clade very short branch lengths indicating coalescence processes at level population, except artemisioides clearly sister rest. Additionally, ecotypes retrieved poly‐ and/or paraphyletic. Based these results re‐evaluation morphological characters traditionally delineate within argue that limited diagnostic value. We recommend recognizing only two section: polymorphic pinnatifida its closely related A revised formal taxonomy provided.

Abstract The binomial Muscari neglectum is commonly used for a widespread Mediterranean geophyte. However, the correct authorship has long been disputed. Here we show, in rather unusual case, that must be attributed to Michele Tenore and renowned zoologist Giosuè Sangiovanni; latter otherwise unlisted among botanical authorities. As several different lectotypes of name have proposed over years, clarify which designation should followed.

Abstract Archives and correspondences are often overlooked resources in assessing taxonomic nomenclatural information this sometimes affects proposals. Here we show that unpublished illustrations not only can definitively help identifying unresolved or poorly known names but be themselves original material must serve as types, avoiding neotypes misleading synonymizations. We present the case of three introduced by Neapolitan botanist Michele Tenore ( Muscari strangwaysii , Asparagaceae; Pogostemon suavis Salvia menthifolia Lamiaceae). They have been interpreted differently over time because herbarium specimens constituted were accurately searched for M. ) unavailable P. S. ). Sorbus tapashana (Rosaceae) from Taibai Shan, Qinling, China, has been treated as a synonym of S. tianschanica . Both species belong to distinctive group characterized by white tomentose buds, relatively large flowers, and red fruits. However, these two do not cluster together in the plastome-based phylogenetic analysis. Morphologically, differs its persistent on peduncle, pedicels, rachis, both sides midrib abaxial surface, leaflets with 31–51 teeth each side much smaller corymbs Therefore, is reinstated distinct here.

The genus Muscari Miller (1754: 926; Asparagaceae) comprises about 80 species (Böhnert et al. 2023) of mainly spring-flowering geophytes and, like many other genera in the Mediterranean, it has a long and turbulent taxonomic history (Garbari & Greuter 1970, Davis Stuart 1980, Speta 1982). most recent attempt to formalize generic boundaries was made by using genome-wide single nucleotide polymorphism data resulting comprehensive treatment its widest sense that accepts five subgenera, which one is described as new 2023). current circumscription sensu Böhnert (2023) distributed Mediterranean region, but reaches far temperate Europe west Afghanistan east (Davis Breckle Rafiqpoor 2010), while Turkey Greece must be regarded centres diversity for 1984, Dimopoulos 2013, Lobin 2017). Several have attracted horticultural attention centuries subsequently been from cultivation, led complex situation, several names still remain without typification.
