Abstract The climate math is clear: carbon capture and storage (CCUS) an essential mitigation technology, without which achieving net‐zero emission targets will be virtually impossible. This requires periodic assessment continuous improvement of the technology from various perspectives. short review highlights current state CCUS deployment, recent achievements, associated challenges. project pipeline at all‐time high in terms both number facilities dioxide capacity. Currently, 47 operational projects have annual CO 2 capacity 50.5 Mt /year. total expected to reach 600 natural gas sector major contributor, accounting for more than 65% While significant progress made years, particularly North America Europe, deployment faces several challenges that are multifaceted, encompassing technical, economic, regulatory, social dimensions. Policymakers, industry leaders, investors, general public increasingly feeling urgency address change, accelerating many efforts, including leading regions globally. However, meet change targets, global investment must grow even faster this decade.
