ABSTRACT Microplastics (MPs) have become a significant environmental concern, but data on their presence in potato gardens are limited. This study aims to identify and quantify MPs soil, organic fertilizer, irrigation water, plants gardens. Soil, samples were collected from fields. Analysis was carried out using microscope Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR) the shape, color, quantity, type of MP polymer. The results indicate contamination with most dominant shape fibers (86%) fragments (8%), color black (35%) blue (27%), abundances 0.10–9.20 g −1 , as well polyethylene terephthalate (PET) high‐density (HDPE) polymers. These potential harm plant growth soil quality. found quantities disrupt agricultural ecosystems. can affect quality products human health throughout food chain.

Microplastics (MPs) are emerging pollutants that constitutes a very serious environmental nuisance and menace to the globe in last decade. The damages from MPs include ecological imbalance of marine environment, flora, fauna these yet be understood African environment. sustainable development goals 14 15 (SDGs #14 #15) seek address challenges combating sustainability terrestrial lives respectively. Understanding pollution dynamics environment is crucial globally particular Africa soon. Hence, it imperative arrest this challenge as swiftly possible before collapse entire biomes. have been detected several matrices; soil, air, aquatic environments, plants, fishes, animals, humans. Their different source routes: ingestion, inhalation, dermal contact contribute an adverse effect (toxicity) all spheres life. To humans, limits their movement, leads shedding scales, inhibits growth, suppresses immune system, causes inflammation, coagulation, also blood cell toxicity among others, on long-run mortality was noted review. There physical, chemical biological transformation microplastics age, leading toxicity, mobility, great interaction. This has contributed high MP intake by fish other animals. For reason, researchers should delve into simpler cheaper ways analyzing its presence develop remediation strategies curb

Microplastics (MPs) are pollutants that have contaminated compost, but there few studies on the interaction between compost with MPs (MPsC) and rice seedling performance. This study investigated effect of MPsC planting activity in rice. In this Three different treatments were applied: treatment 1 (P1) as a control without addition MPs, Treatment 2 (P2) % PET concentration, 3 (P3) concentration. Rice seedlings planted medium each observed for 24 days after (dap). showed significant reduction 38 %, 25 at root length, height, fresh weight respectively. Additionally, chlorophyll content was decrease 42 45 55 Chl a, b, total Chl. may be caused by disturbances nutrition photosynthesis processes due to exposure MPs. The can inhibit growth health seedlings. These findings underscore critical need effective management plastic waste agricultural mitigate its adverse effects plant environmental sustainability. Proper disposal contaminants essential maintain integrity used agriculture, thereby ensuring optimal ecological balance.

ABSTRACT The impact of microplastics (MPs) on carbon (C) and nitrogen (N) content in vermicompost is not yet fully understood. This study aims to evaluate the effect MPs ratio vermicompost, which important for soil quality health. was carried out using a control treatment six variations vermicomposting process. Observations were at certain time intervals 60 days with routine measurements pH, electrical conductivity (EC), seed germination index (GI), survival rate (SR), C/N ratio. results showed that all types caused decrease compared control, high‐density polyethylene (HDPE) showing most significant (from 21 9.42). also had an reducing SR parameters (6.88%–20.41%), pH (6.8–6.1), EC (525.3–398 µs/cm) final product thereby GI (10%–28%). have compost. provides new insights into how can affect composting process product, sustainable agricultural practices waste management.
