Abstract Energy transitions are reshaping hydrosocial relations. How they will be reshaped, however, depends on location and water's material relationship to other resources industrial activities embedded within energy transitions. To highlight this, we focus three different resources—coal, natural gas, lithium—to signal how the water–energy nexus reworked in a transition away from fossil fuels. We examine water–coal as an example of resource that is transitioning out , or being moved green transition. Abstract Saline brines currently being brought to the surface produce geothermal energy in Salton Sea region of California contain high concentrations lithium that could potentially be extracted before brine is reinjected back into reservoir. This would create a new supply chain domestically sourced for United States lithium-based batteries will help drive transition renewable-based grid. Plans expand production along with extraction are considered known resource area. We discuss water availability and quality issues potential concerns about pollution associated this expansion context future restrictions on extractions from Colorado River Basin. estimate demand proposed facilities only accounts ∼4% historical region. This study estimates water consumption in two lithium mines (Olaroz and Fénix) that use different extraction technologies Argentina's salt flats. Based on Environmental Impact Reports (EIRs), we assess the footprint (WF) brine (BC) both mines. To best of our knowledge, this is first to estimate WF BC for provides data better understand its implications local ecosystems communities. We also contextualize freshwater projects by estimating blue intensity (WIblue) population equivalent (PE), namely number inhabitants would consume an volume water. Total was 51.0 135.5 m3/ton carbonate (Li2CO3) Olaroz Fénix, respectively. Per unit product, 2.7 times higher Fénix but Olaroz. Abstract The South American Transition Zone (SATZ) connects the Neotropical and Andean regions, stretching from western Venezuela to northern Chile central‐western Argentina. In Argentina, northwestern Altoandina Cuyana province includes arid semi‐arid ecosystems, particularly Diaguita District, spanning Catamarca, La Rioja San Juan. This mountainous region, including Sierra de Famatina Cordillera Frontal los Andes, hosts species adapted extreme conditions. Despite its biodiversity, region's endemicity phylogenetic uniqueness remain poorly understood, especially as these ecosystems face growing climate threats, such heatwaves. Geckos (Order Gekkota) are one of oldest lizard clades, with divergences over 150 million years ago. Particularly, genus Homonota (Phyllodactylidae) is endemic southern cone America, primarily in also found Brazil, Paraguay, Bolivia Uruguay. As part a broader investigation on geckos this advance their systematic study, we generated data two mitochondrial 12 autosomal loci across 14 species, along comprehensive morphological dataset meristic measurements scale counts. Detailed analyses were conducted within an integrative assessment framework. Consequently, describe new biogeographic district representing northernmost member H. whitii group. inhabits region known for micro‐endemism, further highlighting area important biodiversity hotspot dryland ecosystems.
