Abstract Many environmental monitoring works have been carried out using biomarkers as a tool to identify the effects of oil contamination on marine organisms; however, only few studies used sea urchin gonadal tissue for this purpose. Within context, present work aimed understand impact an spill, proposing use biomarker by trace metals in species Paracentrotus lividus. Biometric analysis, quantification analyses elements Cd, Pb, Ni, Fe, Mn, Zn, and Cu, well histopathological evaluations were performed gonads P. lividus collected from area affected hydrocarbons, named impacted shore (IS) not affected, reference (RS). The results showed that carapace diameter (DC), total wet weight (WW), Cd concentrations significantly influenced interaction between rocky shores origin, months sampling, sex individuals. Moreover, July until September, levels Zn lower male than female gonads. In (the month spill), indexes alterations (IHPA) membrane dilation higher individuals IS, compared RS. addition, there significant correlations biometric variables (wet weight, carapace, gonadosomatic index) Mn concentrations. Lastly, delay gametogenic cycle urchins IS was also observed. Taken together, these findings suggest direct exposure induces lesions ’ affects its reproductive cycle. Graphical

Biomarkers are useful tools for the detection of marine pollution, which is poorly monitored in pelagic environment. In this study, we investigated role key biological and environmental factors on three hepatic xenobiotic biomarkers: carboxylesterases (CEs), glutathione S-transferase (GST) catalase (CAT). Additionally, ethoxyresorufin-O-deethylase (EROD) benzyloxy-4-[trifluoromethyl]-coumarin-O-debenzyloxylase (BFCOD) activities were determined comparative purposes. The species targeted European anchovy (Engraulis encrasicolus) sardine (Sardina pilchardus). results revealed sex-dependent CE sardine. CEs GST significantly affected by reproduction and, anchovy, also influenced temperature. vitro incubations that pesticide dichlorvos caused up to 90 % inhibition basal activity. This work highlights reproductive status, temperature sex, modulate biomarker responses, would be more suitable bioindicator due its higher sensitivity sex-independent responses.

The main objective of this study was to establish a human cell-based platform assess the effects sediment toxicity on oxidative damage and cell essential behaviour. Since pollution has increased as consequence including but not limited industrialisation, contaminants accumulated in sediments have already led health concerns. Hsinchu Science Park is one most prominent semiconductor manufacturing centres world, Ke-Ya River flows through urban district. Because wastes potentially contribute higher-than-normal rates cancers, birth defects, serious diseases, quality assessment prompted widespread While previous studies shown an association between degradation fish populations pollutants, very little known about issues health. Herein, from three sampling sites 11 different lines were directly evaluated. upstream represents undeveloped zone, middle-stream household/industrial wastewater downstream accumulation zone. Our results indicated that more cytotoxic than middle stream upstream. Downstream extract (DSE) significantly reactive oxygen species (ROS) levels across all types. Accordingly, stress can trigger redox-sensitive pathways alter biological processes such viability, adhesion, motility. Importantly, MTT assay DSE decreased viability brain, oral, lung, breast, liver, pancreatic, cervical, prostate, colorectal cells. Furthermore, adhesive ability wound healing cells greatly reduced presence compared other conditions. Thus, shows first analyses completed cytotoxicity cells, stimulated ROS are crucial for cellular life. In future research, detailed cause effect mechanisms abundant generated will be further investigated. We sincerely hope our provides scientific basis investigations with global perspective public challenges.

This study aims to investigate the spatial and seasonal impacts on biochemical responses of two bioindicators: Tridacna squamosa Echinometra mathaei which inhabit Red Sea coast Egypt. Samples were collected from three sites during summer 2019 winter 2020. Total protein, MDA, enzyme activity pyruvate kinase (PK) lactate dehydrogenase (LDH) measured in gonads samples. The results confirmed that environmental variables vary at both levels, where species exhibited different patterns response internal external stresses. In addition, studied did not resort anaerobic respiration as a defense mechanism. Therefore, this confirms use biomarkers field shall be regarded general warning stress.

Abstract Anthropogenic activities have been shown to significantly affect marine life. Water pollution and oil spills are particularly deleterious the fish population, especially during their larval stage. In this study, Sobaity-sea bream Sparidentex hasta (Valenciennes, 1830) larvae were exposed serial dilutions of water-accommodated fraction Kuwait crude (KCO-WAF) for varying durations (3, 6, 24, 48, 72 or 96 h) in acute exposure regime. Gene expression was assessed using RNA sequencing validated through RT-qPCR. The data aligned sequenced genome, differentially expressed genes identified response treatment with without KCO-WAF at various times. highest number observed early time point 6 h post-exposure KCO-WAF. lowest noticed indicating contaminant. acquired information on then used functional pathway analysis. More than 90% had a significant BLAST match, two most common matching species being Acanthopagrus latus Sparus aurata . Approximately 65% Ontology annotations, whereas > 35% KEGG annotations. found be enriched signaling pathways (e.g., MAPK, cAMP, PI3K-Akt) nervous system-related neurodegeneration, axon guidance, glutamatergic synapse, GABAergic synapse). Early modulated pathways, while longer duration affected neurodegenerative/nervous pathways. RT-qPCR analysis confirmed differential each point. These findings provide insights into underlying molecular mechanisms effects pollution—on populations, stage
