Abstract
The
economic
and
ecological
benefits
of
living
by
the
ocean
have
led
many
coastal
settlements
to
grow
into
large
densely
populated
cities.
Large
cities
had
considerable
environmental
effects
on
marine
ecosystems
through
resource
extraction,
waste
disposal,
use
for
transportation.
Thus,
it
is
important
understand
consequences
urbanization
human
activities
evolutionary
processes
biodiversity
in
fishes.
Using
published
population
genetic
datasets
fishes
amounting
75,496
individuals
sampled
from
73
species
at
1143
sample
sites
throughout
world’s
oceans,
we
evaluated
how
density
a
composite
measure
cumulative
impacts
affected
diversity
differentiation.
We
found
that
was
significantly
lower
fish
populations
associated
with
denser
regardless
locality.
were
less
prominent,
perhaps
due
this
capturing
more
spatially
varying
processes.
Urbanization
regions
has
degraded
way
erodes
adaptive
potential
populations.
This
highlights
need
mitigate
threats

efforts

Recognizing
the
global
challenges
faced
by
marine
ecosystems
and
people
that
depend
on
them,
there
is
a
growing
worldwide
uptake
of
"Blue
Economy"
approach
for
establishing
equitable
sustainable
ocean
industries.
Research
has
shown
capacity
to
achieve
these
Blue
Economies
largely
shaped
enabling
governance
conditions
related
social
economic
equity,
more
so
than
available
natural
resources.
Yet
often
very
wide
variation
across
such
even
within
nations
subregions
world.
This
must
be
addressed
build
foundations
necessary
regional
development
cooperation
in
shared
systems,
but
will
require
much
beyond
investments
scientific
knowledge,
technology,
or
infrastructure.
Indeed,
most
developing
(and
some
developed)
regions
world,

The
Ocean
is
central
to
our
lives,
providing
vital
ecosystem
goods
and
services.
It
generates
50%
of
the
Earth's
oxygen;
absorbs
around
30%
anthropogenic
carbon
emissions;
regulates
climate;
provides
food,
income,
livelihoods
for
hundreds
millions
people
worldwide.
However,
under
serious
multiple
threats
from
overexploitation,
climate
change,
pollution.
Here,
I
state
my
dream
2050
scenario
describe
how
trade,
in
midst
broader
ocean
governance
efforts,
can
contribute
realizing
this
dream.
