A Qualitative Exploration of the Concept of Self-Compassion amongst Individuals with a History of Interpersonal Traumatic Events

Abstract
Objectives:
Self-compassion
has
been
associated
with
better
mental
well-being,
recovery
from
psychological
trauma,
and
lower
levels
of
post-traumatic
stress.
However,
it
studied
primarily
using
quantitative
research
design(s),
there
is
a
limited
understanding
the
concept
self-compassion
amongst
those
who
have
experienced
early
interpersonal
which
shown
to
impact
person’s
view
self
others.
This
study
aimed
develop
an
self-compassion,
including
its
barriers,
facilitators,
cultural
influences,
individuals
history
trauma.
Methods:
The
used
semi-structured
interview
method
16
participants
(eleven
females
five
males)
diverse
ethnic
backgrounds
Data
were
analysed
through
Reflexive
Thematic
Analysis
(Braun
&
Clarke,
2019).
Results:

Conclusions:
findings
clarify
facilitators
influences
on
trauma
can
inform
development
effective,
culturally
sensitive
compassion
interventions
for
complex
PTSD

conditions

Disentangling the relationship between state self‐compassion and state coping self‐efficacy using dynamic structural equation modeling

Abstract
The
cross‐sectional
association
between
self‐compassion
and
coping
self‐efficacy
has
been
well
documented,
but
little
is
known
about
the
extent
to
which
or
persists
in
daily
life.
This
study
used
dynamic
structural
equation
modeling
explore
temporal
relationship
through
a
diary
study.
Participants
(
N
=
240,
M
age
18.98
±
0.99
years,
44.8%
female)
completed
14
consecutive
diaries
on
(for
total
of
3219
observations).
We
found
that
demonstrated
stability
autocorrelations.
Self‐compassion
was
significant
predictor
subsequent
self‐efficacy,
self‐compassion.
These
findings
suggest
there
virtuous
cycle
state

Self-compassion
(SC)
and
its
influence
on
mental
health
have
always
been
a
significant
focus
in
psychological
research,
especially
given
the
alarming
prevalence
of
depression
among
Chinese
university
students.
The
purpose
this
study
is
to
examine
relationship
between
SC,
encompassing
both
self-warmth
self-coldness,
undergraduates,
with
emotion
regulation
strategies
(ERS)
serving
as
mediator.
sample
comprised
21,353
undergraduates
from
Yunnan
Province,
China,
data
collected
at
two
time
points
(T1
T2).
SC
was
measured
using
Self-Compassion
Scale-Short
Form
(SCS-SF),
while
assessed
Beck
Depression
Inventory
(BDI).
ERS
were
Cognitive
Emotion
Regulation
Questionnaire-short
(CERQ-short).
Data
analyzed
structural
equation
modeling.
Results
demonstrated
that
model
self-warmth,
ERS,
fit
well.
Upon
controlling
for
T1,
self-coldness
predictors
through
ERS.

Introduction
Self-compassion
and
self-coldness
mediate
the
relationship
between
perceived
social
support
wellbeing,
depression,
anxiety
stress.
However,

mediation
has
not
been
studied
in
intercultural
contexts
yet.

crosssectional
study

effects

constructs
among
Arabs

Methods

496
adults—309
(62.3%)

self-compassion,

anxiety,

indirect
self-compassion
on
wellbeing
facets,

found

effect
for
constructs.
We
also
that
culture
moderated
processes
stronger
than
Jews,
but
no
moderation
self-coldness.
Discussion
These
results
emphasize
importance
considering
cultural
context
when
designing
interventions
aimed
at
promoting
by
enhancing
self-compassion.
