A global systematic literature review of river sediment contamination was undertaken, based on secondary data published between 2015 and 2023, to identify the key challenges. It further explores how incidents flooding, driven by climate change, can exacerbate remobilization contaminants, cautiously discusses their potential pathway human food chain. As would be predicted, research demonstrates that chemical is not consistent worldwide. also found often non-standardized approaches sampling sample preparation were reported in literature, which has implications for credibility replicability data, making comparison studies challenging limiting pool use data-driven decision-making. Finally, authors have made five policy-relevant, policy-prescriptive recommendations stakeholders policymakers address gaps information pool.
