Using Geospatial-Driven Territorial Planning and Land Suitability Analysis for Sustainable Coconut Agriculture in Johor, Malaysia

This
research
assesses
land
suitability
and
territorial
planning
for
sustainable
coconut
agriculture
in
Johor,
Malaysia,
using
Geographic
Information
Systems
(GIS)
remote
sensing
technologies.
The
study
aims
to
generate
a
comprehensive
map,
evaluate
viability
Weighted
Overlay
Analysis
(WOA)
Principal
Component
(PCA),
develop
plans
that
consider
soil
suitability,
climate
conditions,
environmental
impacts.
Key
variables
analyzed
include
digital
elevation
model
(DEM),
bulk
density,
use/land
cover,
moisture,
NDVI,
pH,
annual
rainfall,
temperature,
type,
water
content.
Each
of
these
factors
was
reclassified
assigned
weights
through
(PCA)
produce
detailed
maps.
final
maps
classified
areas
into
categories:
very
suitable,
moderately
unsuitable,
based
on
predefined
scale.
These
results
clearly
show
there
is
significant
loss
regarding
cultivation
from
2018
2024
due
driving
like
urbanization,
degradation
land,
fluctuating
conditions.
Therefore,
key
were
found
highly
suitable
farming
Pontian,
Muar,
Batu
Pahat,
Kota
Tinggi,
while
lower
Pulau
Tioman.
thus
concludes
adaptive
management
strategies
continuous
monitoring
are
needed
promote
agriculture,
hence
optimizing
use
Johor.
