Abstract The main objective of this study is to determine whether boys and girls learn better when the characteristics pedagogical agent are matched gender learner while learning in immersive virtual reality (VR). Sixty‐six middle school students (33 females) were randomly assigned about laboratory safety with one two agents: Marie or a drone, who we predicted serve as role models for females males, respectively. results indicated that there significant interactions dependent variables performance during learning, retention, transfer, performing ( d = 0.98, 0.67, 1.03; performance, respectively) drone −0.41, −0.45, −0.23, respectively). suggest gender‐specific design agents may play an important VR environments.

As social robotics becomes more utilized and routine in everyday situations, individuals will be interacting with robots a variety of contexts. Centered on the use human-to-human interaction scripts, current study hypothesized that would uncertain, have less liking anticipate presence when they are told robot as opposed to another person. Additionally, two-time measurement model experiment explore perceptions either or human. Data were consistent hypotheses. Research questions examined from Time 1 2 for condition dependent variables. Findings discussed light future research studies.

Social skills training, performed by human trainers, is a well-established method for obtaining appropriate in social interaction. Previous work automated the process of training developing dialogue system that teaches communication through interaction with computer avatar. Even though previous simulated only considered acoustic and linguistic information, trainers take into account visual other non-verbal features. In this paper, we create evaluate closes gap considering audiovisual features smiling ratio head pose (yaw pitch). addition, was tested graduate students; applied our to children or young adults autism spectrum disorders. For experimental evaluation, recruited 18 members from general population 10 people disorders gave them proposed multimodal use. An experienced trainer rated users. We evaluated system's effectiveness comparing pre- post-training scores identified significant improvement their using system. Computer-based useful who experience difficulties. Such can be used teachers, therapists, rehabilitation supplemental use human-based anywhere anytime.

Because robots and other electronic agents perform increasingly social functions, people will soon face the possibility of more frequent human–robot interactions. But what kinds expectations do bring with them into these potential interactions? Based on a human-to-human interaction script, current research hypothesized that be uncertain about, anticipate less attraction to, expect presence when they to interact robot as opposed another human. An experiment was designed in which were told would either or person, each three measured. The data consistent hypotheses. These findings are discussed, avenues for future research.

This paper proposes a new approach to automatically detect dementia. Even though some works have detected dementia from speech and language attributes, most applied detection using picture descriptions, narratives, cognitive tasks. In this paper, we propose computer avatar with spoken dialog functionalities that produces queries based on the mini-mental state examination, Wechsler memory scale-revised, other related neuropsychological questions. We recorded interactive data of dialogues 29 participants (14 15 healthy controls) extracted various audiovisual features. tried predict features two machine learning algorithms (support vector machines logistic regression). Here, show support outperformed regression, by they classified into groups 0.93 performance, as measured areas under receiver operating characteristic curve. also newly identified contributing features, e.g., gap before speaking, variations fundamental frequency, voice quality, ratio smiling. concluded our system has potential through systems can assist health care workers. addition, these findings could help medical personnel signs
