Abstract This study proposes BAGWO, a novel hybrid optimization algorithm that integrates the Beetle Antennae Search (BAS) and Grey Wolf Optimizer (GWO) to leverage their complementary strengths while enhancing original strategies. BAGWO introduces three key improvements: charisma concept its update strategy based on sigmoid function, local exploitation frequency driven by cosine switching for antennae length decay rate. These improvements are rigorously validated through ablation experiments. Comprehensive evaluations 24 benchmark functions from CEC 2005 2017, along with eight real-world engineering problems, demonstrate achieves stable convergence superior performance. Extensive testing quantitative statistical analyses confirm significantly outperforms competing algorithms in terms of solution accuracy stability, highlighting strong competitiveness potential practical applications global optimization.
