Abstract Male attraction to female flight sounds is a vital, reproducible component of courtship in many species mosquitoes; however, acoustic behaviours have proven challenging define. To investigate sexual dimorphisms behaviours, previous reports largely focused on differences mosquito peripheral ear anatomy and function. Whilst molecular investigations recently begun the auditory periphery, central processing information not yet been explored. Here we used combination neurotracing, calcium imaging analyses examine yellow fever Aedes aegypti . We identified shared dimorphic neurons connecting male ears primary centre brain, defined multiple distinct neuronal clusters based responses stimulation. finally transcriptomic proteomic factors underlying these differences, with motile ciliary-related terms significantly enriched males.
