Abstract In nutritional ecology the intake target is diet that maximises consumer fitness. A key hypothesis of natural selection has acted upon behavioural and physiological traits consumers to result in them Selectively Consuming prey match Intake Target (SCIT). SCIT been documented some herbivores omnivores, which experience strong heterogeneity quality available foods. Although carnivores a community with much more homogeneous nutrient composition, by nevertheless deemed highly likely researchers. Here we test for micronutrients (amino acids) two freshwater carnivores: river blackfish two-spined blackfish. both blackfishes exhibited non-random consumption from environment, this resulted amino acids only one species, Non-random was not SCIT, but instead an artefact habitat-specific foraging. We present hypotheses explain why wild populations may exhibit acids. Our work highlights need careful, critical tests assumptions its application populations.

Contaminants are increasingly accumulating in aquatic environments and biota, with potential adverse effects on individual organisms, communities ecosystems. However, studies that explore the molecular changes fish caused by environmentally relevant concentrations of metals, such as copper (Cu), limited. This study uses embryos model organism zebrafish (Danio rerio) to investigate effect Cu proteome amino acid (AA) composition fish. Wild-type at 24 h post-fertilisation were exposed (2 µg L

enthic macroinvertebrates are essential components of aquatic biotic communities, performing several ecological roles in ecosystem functioning including nutrient circulation and recirculation. The species diversity, abundance seasonal dynamics benthic a fish pond their relation with bottom soil water quality parameters were examined for duration one year during January to December. A total 21 genera under four (4) different major groups invertebrates identified. mean number each macroinvertebrate group the study period following order: Oligochaeta (13 genera) > Chironomidae (4 Ceratopogonidae (2 Mollusca genera). Among genera, Tubifex spp., Pentaneura spp. Culicoides most abundant frequently occurred month. interaction properties played an important role structure communities. nitrogen (%) content sediments was found be positively correlated occurrence (r = 0.764; p < 0.01). relationship between environmental variables assessed diversity indices showed significant variation over months, whereas Simpson index (Ds) judged lower level contamination. Shannon-Wiener (H´) Richness Index (R) Pielou evenness (J) revealed that community distribution uniform, tolerable conditions productivity pond. Considering presence macroinvertebrates, water, can considered as moderately productive
