Abstract Human activities have led to the release of various environmental pollutants, triggering ecological challenges. In situ, microbial communities in these contaminated environments are usually assumed possess potential capacity pollutant degradation. However, majority genes and microorganisms remain uncharacterized uncultured. The advent meta‐omics provided culture‐independent solutions for exploring functional within complex communities. this review, we highlight applications methodologies uncovering microbes from environments. These findings may assist future bioremediation research.
