Abstract In the context of evolutionary time, cities are an extremely recent development. Although our understanding how urbanization alters ecosystems is well-developed, empirical work examining consequences on adaptive evolution remains limited. To facilitate future work, we offer candidate genes for one most prominent urban carnivores across North America. The coyote (Canis latrans) a highly adaptable carnivore distributed throughout and non-urban regions in As such, can serve as blueprint various pathways by which influence genomes wildlife via comparisons along urban-rural gradients, well between metropolitan areas. Given close relationship coyotes domestic dogs, leverage well-annotated dog genome conserved mammalian from model species to outline may alter genotypes shape phenotypes. We identify variables that selection pressure suggestions explore. Specifically, focus related diet, health, behavior, cognition, reproduction. rapidly urbanizing world cope adapt anthropogenic change persistence of, coexistence with, these species.

This review provides a comprehensive analysis of the role chemical agents in enhancing performance geopolymers for stabilization and adsorption heavy metals. Geopolymers, synthesized from aluminosilicate sources activated under alkaline conditions, are recognized their versatile structural environmental benefits, including low carbon emissions high resistance. Their unique Si-O-Al framework supports both stabilization/solidification (S/S) processes, making them an ideal polymeric matrix immobilization hazardous metals contaminated environments. The categorizes metal mechanisms into physical encapsulation, ion exchange, hydroxide precipitation, complexation, depending on specific species geopolymer formulation. introduction stabilizing agents, such as dithiocarbamate, sodium sulfide, trimercaptotriazine, significantly improves encapsulation efficacy by promoting targeted reactions stable complexes. These enable effective S/S metals, lead, cadmium, chromium, reducing leachability impact. In addition to solid waste management applications, have shown promising capabilities aqueous contaminants, with modifications further increasing affinity evaluates impact different synthesis conditions overall immobilization, highlighting advances applications future research directions sustainable treatment.

The accumulation of heavy metals in the ecosystem due to industrialization has led toxic effects on various life forms such as flora, fauna and microfauna. Several approaches that are currently used for removal not cost-effective efficient. Therefore, current study was focused bio-removal chromium (Cr), lead (Pb) zinc (Zn) using augmentation with strong biofilm forming Bacillus infantis (VITVJ8), which confirmed by augmented rhizosphere region Chrysopogon zizanioides a percentage 0.025%. bioremoval process catalyzed superoxide dismutase, chromate reductase catalase activity 83U/ml, 51U/ml 75U/ml, respectively. VITVJ8 also found be plant growth promoting bacterium it capable producing indole acetic acid (IAA) 63µg/ml siderophores 1.238cm solubilizing insoluble phosphate 72.3%. could tolerate Cr Zn up 1000ppm, whereas Pb 1250ppm. Further, rhizoremediation setup consisting C. strain showed enhanced uptake Zn, (89% > 86% 77%) compared phytoremediation (60% 62% 59%) treated plants. Seed germination assay revealed 75.78% increase index set-ups B. , reduction metal (HM) toxicity upon treatment effective growth. Since maximum roots versus shoots, vetiver can considered root accumulator Cr, when amended .

Abstract Lajes Field is an Atlantic Portuguese military air base that has been used by the USA since Cold War, primarily for intercontinental refueling. For this purpose, large fuel tanks and extensive pipeline network were constructed within municipality of Praia da Vitória, on Terceira Island, Azores. Over past two decades, leaks detected confirmed to have contaminated soils aquifers supply water public use. latter, identified contaminants include TPH, PAH, BTEX, VOCs, metals. Although risk assessment reports unacceptable risks human health, journalistic investigations suggest unusually high cancer rates, no possible exposure conducted date. To address gap, metals, serving as a proxy overall contamination exposure, measured using portable X-ray fluorescence (pXRF) in First Identified Skeletal Collection Azores (CEI/Açores). A total 64 skeletons with known places last residence selected (44 from Angra do Heroísmo, where present, 20 present). No significant differences mean ages at death observed between groups, sex distribution was similar. Additionally, soil samples 46 graves analyzed assess potential diagenesis. Greater concentrations Sb, As, Cd, Cr, Au, Mo, Sr, Sn, U, Zr found individuals Vitória ( p < 0.05). Soil measurements, Pearson’s correlation test, principal component analysis As levels can be partially attributed remaining likely result other factors, including particularly Mo. pioneering study contributes ongoing discussion subject, further research should both CEI/Açores living population discuss issue.

Atherosclerosis remains a leading cause of cardiovascular morbidity and mortality worldwide, traditionally linked to elevated cholesterol levels, particularly low-density lipoprotein (LDL-C). However, despite aggressive lipid-lowering strategies, residual risk persists, underscoring the need explore additional contributing factors. This review examines emerging factors beyond cholesterol, including chronic inflammation, gut microbiota composition, oxidative stress, environmental exposures. Inflammation plays pivotal role in atherogenesis, with markers such as C-reactive protein (CRP), interleukin-6 (IL-6), tumor necrosis factor-alpha (TNF-α) serving indicators disease activity. The microbiome, metabolites like trimethylamine N-oxide (TMAO), has been implicated vascular inflammation plaque development, while beneficial short-chain fatty acids (SCFAs) demonstrate protective effects. Oxidative stress further exacerbates endothelial dysfunction instability, driven by reactive oxygen species (ROS) lipid peroxidation. Additionally, factors, air pollution, heavy metal exposure, endocrine disruptors, psychological have emerged significant contributors disease. Understanding these novel offers broader perspective on atherosclerosis pathogenesis provides new avenues for targeted prevention therapeutic interventions.

Background: Associations of antioxidants in prenatal over-the-counter multivitamin-mineral (OTC MVM) supplements with in-utero oxidative stress (OS), antioxidant capacity, and fetal growth are limited. Our objectives were to determine if five ultrasound measurements [biparietal diameter (BPD), head circumference (HC), abdominal (AC), femur length (FL), estimated weight] associated OTC MVM minerals, biomarkers OS, total capacity amniotic fluid (AF). Methods: For this retrospective study, 176 pregnant women who had undergone age-related amniocentesis for genetic testing included. Questionnaires recorded supplementation (yes, no). Ultrasound early (16–20 weeks) late (32–36 gestation extracted from medical charts. AF concentrations 15 minerals trace elements OS [nitric oxide (NO), thiobarbituric acid-reactive substances (TBARS), ferric-reducing power (FRAP)] measured at 12–20 weeks gestation. biomarkers, measures analyzed using multiple linear regressions. Results: Positive associations observed between TBARS seven minerals/elements (calcium, copper, magnesium, nickel, strontium, zinc iron). At 16–20 weeks, selenium positively BPD, HC, AC, FL, respectively, NO was FRAP inversely weight. 32–36 calcium BPD chromium arsenic negatively HC. higher FL exposure continued be weight weeks. Conclusions: Concentrations linked specific different stages gestation, suggesting a complex interplay among utero supplements, growth.
