Expanding Knowledge about the Influence of Citral on Cognitive Functions—In Vitro, In Vivo and Ex Vivo Studies

Citral,
a
common
monoterpene
found
in
numerous
plants,
is
an
interesting
compound
that
has
been
shown
to
have
various
biological
activities.
Although
it
widely
distributed
nature
and
there
are
many
studies
presenting
its
activities,
anti-neurodegenerative
activity,
especially
under
vivo
conditions,
very
poorly
understood.
Thus,
this
paper
aimed
deepen
knowledge
about
citral
activity
towards
factors
symptoms
of
neurodegeneration.
To
accomplish
this,
several
comprehensive
tests
were
conducted,
including
the
estimation
butyrylcholinesterase
inhibition,
evaluation
hepatotoxicity
detection
oxidative
stress
lipid
peroxidation
vitro,
as
well
behavioral
assessment
using
mice
models.
Additionally,
ex
determination
level
brain
blood
tested
animal
was
undertaken.
The
results
obtained
revealed
able
inhibit
protect
hepatic
cells
against
vitro.
Moreover,
indicated
(50
mg/kg)
improves
memory
processes
associated
with
acquisition
(passive
avoidance
test),
both
acute
subchronic
administration.

the
rapid
advancement
in
brain
science

imaging
technology,
there
is
a
growing
interest
investigating
connection
between
aromatherapy

on

Quantitative
Electroencephalography
(QEEG)
to
examine

of

fragrance
lemongrass
essential
oil
(LEO)

regions.

Introduction:
Essential
oils
are
complex
substances
used
extensively
in
aromatherapy
and
phytotherapy,
some
of
them
as
anxiety
stress-relieving
agents.
In
order
to
evaluate
the
effects
Melissa
officinalis
essential
oil
on
state
trait
anxiety,
this
study
was
conducted.
Methods:
The
extracted

distillation
