Colitis is an inflammatory disorder of the gastrointestinal tract. A widely consumed dietary nutrient, α-ketoglutarate (α-KG) known to play a crucial role in cellular metabolism and provide protection intestinal epithelium under various pathophysiological conditions. In this study, 2,4,6-trinitrobenzenesulfonic acid (TNBS) was used induce colitis Wistar rats. After 36 hours TNBS administration, rats were orally treated with solution α-KG at 1 g/kg body weight for 5 days. Development confirmed by observable physical symptoms repeated loose blood-mixed stool, apathy food loss. Macroscopic inspection revealed inflamed colonic surface ulcerations. Histopathological observations included alterations crypts-structure disruption both epithelial mucosal layers colon induced resulted elevated levels pro-inflammatory cytokines, ER stress-mediated cell death intrinsic apoptosis pathway. The ameliorative effects against TNBS-mediated toxicity through molecular technics docking analysis. Additionally, there no instances α-KG. Therefore, can be considered as valuable therapeutic agent further comprehensive research.
