Abstract The 2001 (first) edition of this Handbook was a comprehensive review history, research, and discussions on religion health through the year 2000. Appendix listed 1,200 separate quantitative studies each rated in quality 0–10 scale, followed by about 2,000 references an extensive index for rapid topic identification. 2012 (second) systematically updated research from 2000 to 2010, with number then reaching thousands. This 2023 (third) is most scientifically rigorous date, covering best published 2021 emphasis prospective randomized controlled trials. Beginning Foreword Dr. Howard K. Koh, former US Assistant Secretary Health Department Human Services, nearly 600,000-word volume examines almost every aspect health, reviewing past more recent relationship between outcomes. Furthermore, all its 34 chapters conclude clinical community applications, making text relevant both healthcare professionals (physicians, nurses, social workers, rehabilitation therapists, counselors, psychologists, sociologists, etc.) clergy (community clergy, chaplains, pastoral etc.). book’s focuses studies, describing study single line, allowing researchers quickly locate existing research. It should not be surprising that two decades has been cited health.

Rates of alcohol use disorder (AUD) have increased in women by 84% over the past ten years relative to a 35% increase men. This substantive female drinking is alarming given that experience greater alcohol-related health consequences compared Stress strongly associated with all phases addiction, including initiation, maintenance, and relapse for both men, but plays an especially critical role women. Alcohol use disorder (AUD) is a highly prevalent but severely under-treated disorder, with only three widely-approved pharmacotherapies. Given that AUD very heterogeneous it unlikely one single medication will be effective for all individuals an AUD. As such, there need to develop new, more effective, and diverse pharmacological treatment options the hopes of increasing utilization improving care. In this qualitative literature review, we discuss efficacy, mechanism action, tolerability approved, repurposed, novel pharmacotherapies clinical perspective. Pharmacotherapies discussed include: disulfiram, acamprosate, naltrexone, nalmefene, topiramate, gabapentin, varenicline, baclofen, sodium oxybate, aripiprazole, ondansetron, mifepristone, ibudilast, suvorexant, prazosin, doxazosin, N-acetylcysteine, GET73, ASP8062, ABT-436, PF-5190457, cannabidiol. Overall, many repurposed agents in review demonstrate effectiveness promise future treatment. Importantly, these medications also offer potential improvements towards advancement precision medicine personalized population. Alcohol use disorder remains a significant public health concern, affecting around 5% of adults worldwide. Novel pathways damage have been described during the last years, providing insight into mechanism injury due to alcohol misuse beyond direct effect ethanol byproducts on liver parenchyma and neurobehavioral mechanisms. Thus, gut-liver-brain axis immune system involvement could be therapeutic targets for disorder. In particular, changes in gut microbiota composition function, bile acid homeostasis, shown with consumption cessation. can also directly disrupt intestinal blood-brain barriers. Activation triggered by barrier dysfunction translocation bacteria, pathogen-associated molecular patterns (such as lipopolysaccharide), cytokines, damage-associated patterns. These factors, turn, promote brain inflammation progression fibrosis. Other involved mechanisms include oxidative stress, apoptosis, autophagy, release extracellular vesicles miRNA from hepatocytes. Potential (probiotics fecal transplantation), neuroinflammatory pathways, well neuroendocrine example, ghrelin (ghrelin receptor blockade), incretin mimetics (glucagon-like peptide-1 analogs), mineralocorticoid (spironolactone). addition, support psychological behavioral treatments is essential address multiple dimensions future, personalized approach considering these novel contribute significantly decreasing alcohol-associated burden disease.

Drug abuse and brain disorders related to drug comsumption are public health problems with harmful individual social consequences. The identification of therapeutic targets precise pharmacological treatments these neuropsychiatric conditions associated urgently needed. Understanding the link between neurobiological mechanisms behavior is a key aspect elucidating abuse-related targets. Due various molecular, biochemical, pharmacological, physiological features, zebrafish (Danio rerio) has been considered suitable vertebrate for modeling complex processes involved in responses. In this review, we discuss how successfully used neurobehavioral phenotypes review effects opioids, cannabinoids, alcohol, nicotine, psychedelic drugs on central nervous system (CNS). Moreover, summarize recent advances zebrafish-based studies outline potential advantages limitations existing models explore neurochemical bases addiction. Finally, use may present fruitful approaches provide valuable clinically translatable data.
