Abstract Importance Rates of prenatal cannabis exposure (PCE) are rising with increasingly permissive legislation regarding use, which may be a risk factor for psychosis. Disrupted reward-related neural circuitry underlie this relationship. Objective To elucidate mechanisms involved in the association between PCE and youth-onset psychotic-like experiences by probing correlates reward anticipation, neurobehavioral marker endocannabinoid-mediated dopaminergic function. Design, setting, participants This longitudinal, prospective study analyzed task-related functional neuroimaging data from baseline (n=11,368), 2-year follow-up (n=7,928), 4-year (n=2,982) ongoing Adolescent Brain Cognitive Development (ABCD) Study, recruited children aged 9 to 10 years old at 22 sites across United States. Results (n=652 exposed youth) is longitudinally associated experiences. Blunted response anticipation experiences, stronger effects observed youth (all |β| > 0.5; false discovery rate [FDR]–corrected P < .05). hypoactivation predicts psychosis symptomatology middle adolescence (4-year visit; β=-.004; FDR-corrected Dampened behavioral sensitivity baseline, visit, visit (|β| = .21; .001). Psychotic-like positively trait-level measures motivation impulsivity, 0.1; all Conclusions Relevance activation brain regions serve as biomarker disrupted processing increased during development. affect childhood behaviors traits related altered sensitivity.

Introduction: schizophrenia is a chronic mental disease affecting around 24 million people worldwide. Within this disease, it common to find the consumption of psychoactive substances by patients, with cannabis ranking first on list; drug bears particular relation through effects cannabinoids proper that plant. Objective: determine relationship between and schizophrenia. Methodology: narrative bibliographic review was performed information using databases such as Scopus PubMed descriptors MESH/DECS via keywords, taking into account articles from 2009 2023, in English Spanish criteria inclusion exclusion be analyzed. Results: assessed could trigger psychotic episode vulnerable individuals; transition psychosis found occur among those who started consume before being 15 years old continued consuming frequently. Cannabis consumers were not more prone develop than had never consumed cannabis. Conclusions: one most important modifiable risk factors development since works componential cause for outcome event framed within spectrum

Background Elevated rates of alcohol, tobacco, and cannabis use are observed in both patients with psychotic disorders individuals at clinical high risk for psychosis (CHR-P), strong genetic associations exist between substance schizophrenia. While 22q11.2 deletion syndrome (22qDel) increased psychosis, initial evidence suggests that they have strikingly low use. In the current study, we aimed to directly compare patterns their neurobehavioral correlates high-risk cohorts. Methods Data on frequency severity, symptoms, measures were collected baseline 12-month follow-up visits two prospective longitudinal cohorts: participants included 89 22qDel carriers 65 age sex-matched typically developing (TD) controls (40.67% male, M = 19.26 ± 7.84 years) 1,288 CHR-P youth 371 matched TD from North American Prodrome Longitudinal Study-2 3 (55.74% male; 18.71 4.27 years). analyzed cross-sectionally longitudinally using linear mixed effects models. Results Controlling age, sex, site, had significantly elevated relative controls, whereas lower rates. Increased was associated symptom dysphoric mood, social functioning, IQ, while higher anhedonia across all domains baseline. These persisted when investigated these relationships over one-year. exhibited positive anhedonia, IQ compared carriers, autism spectrum disorder (ASD) 1 year follow-up. Conclusion Individuals different Factors such as neurodevelopmental symptoms (lower ASD) poorer functioning may help explain this distinction individuals.

Cannabis derivatives have been conventionally employed globally for their curative and restorative properties various ailments. However, its recreational use consequent legal restrictions substantially cramped scientific research. An emerging interest regarding the profound therapeutic potential of cannabinoids has observed among clinicians. Despite a rich cultural background, high-quality research on is lacking in Indian scenario. This review readdresses challenges this front brings an insight into current status utility exploration. Cannabinoids significant medicinal value clinical disorders. Its so far based scarce resources corroborations, as evidence-based substantiation limited. Background: The present retrospective observational study aims to identify differences in clinical features and peripheral biomarkers among patients affected by substance-induced psychotic disorder (SIPD) according the primary substance of abuse. Methods: A sample 218 was divided into three groups type consumed substance: alcohol, cannabis, psychostimulants. were compared using one-way analyses variance (ANOVAs) for continuous variables χ2 tests qualitative variables. After excluding alcohol-induced group, same repeated. statistically significant from these subsequent included a binary logistic regression model confirm their reliability as predictors cannabis- or psychostimulant-induced disorder. Results: Psychotic cannabis abusers younger (p < 0.01), with illness onset at an earlier age 0.01). Substance misuse in individuals with psychiatric disorders is associated worsening symptoms and hospitalization. The present retrospective, observational study analyzed inpatient psychiatry hospital EHR data from 2013 to 2020 (N = 12,742) patients co-occurring substance misuse. use was categorized as cannabis-only, alcohol-only, or illicit/poly-substance. Two outcome variables were evaluated using multiple-regression: (1) Global Assessment of Functioning (GAF) Score at admission, (2) 30-day readmission rate. Covariates included primary Axis I disorder, living situation, Race/Ethnicity, education, sex, age, total same-hospital readmissions (>30 days). Controlling for all covariates, the cannabis-only group had significantly higher GAF score admission (less severity) vs. both other groups; lower rates illicit/poly-substance only. Post-hoc analyses revealed results drug groups robust, holding across diagnoses. Study limitations lack formal SUD diagnosis, information quantify patterns, retrospective design, examine an appropriate free Results are discussed terms putative therapeutic efficacy THC cannabidiol on modulation sleep, anxiety, agitation.
