Nano/microplastics
(N/MPs)
induce
phytotoxicity
and
represent
a
significant
global
threat
to
terrestrial
agricultural
ecosystems.
However,
the
defense
mechanisms
of
plants
against
different-sized
N/MPs
remain
largely
unknown.
To
address
this
knowledge
gap,
we
investigated
interactions
between
polystyrene
(PS)
NPs
(50
100
nm)
PS-MPs
(200
500
with
taro
(Colocasia
esculenta).
We
found
that
PS
particles
varying
sizes
exhibited
differential
root
adsorption
penetration,
PS-NPs
capable
penetrating
epidermis,
whereas
were
totally
excluded.
Notably,
demonstrated
capacity
recognize
different
responded
degrees
resistance.
In
reaction
more
toxic
50
nm
PS-NPs,
roots
mobilized
robust
mechanism
three
levels:
molecular,
compositional,
ultrastructural.
This
was
achieved
by
activating
lignin
synthesis,
carbohydrate

in

Microplastic
(MP)
pollution
in
terrestrial
ecosystems

gaining
