Broca's aphasia is a crushing syndrome after stroke. Although there are multiple therapies, the recovery of considerable number patients still not ideal. Repetitive transcranial magnetic stimulation (rTMS) combined with speech and language therapy has been promising combination regimen in recent years. However, efficacy persistent effects thereof remain unclear. We aimed to determine immediate long-term rTMS on subacute stroke explore relevant mechanisms picture-naming task via functional near-infrared spectroscopy (fNIRS).

Non-invasive brain stimulation, such as transcranial direct current stimulation (tDCS), has been shown to increase the outcome of speech and language therapy (SLT) in chronic aphasia. Only a few studies have investigated effect add-on tDCS on SLT early stage aphasia; this may be due methodological reasons, particular influence spontaneous remission difficulty establishing protocols clinical routines. Thirty-seven participants with subacute aphasia (PwA) after stroke (23 men, 14 women; mean age 62 ± 12 years; duration 49 28 days) were included two consecutive periods treatment lasting weeks each. During first period (P1) received 10 sessions SLT, during second (P2) was supplemented by anodal left hemispheric 2 mA over hemisphere. Severity-specific tests (Aachen Aphasia Test (AAT),
