Brain injury resulting from adverse events during pregnancy and delivery is the leading cause of neonatal morbidity disability. Surviving neonates often suffer long-term motor, sensory, cognitive impairments. Birth asphyxia among most common causes encephalopathy. The integration ultrasound, including Doppler near-infrared spectroscopy (NIRS) offers a promising approach to understanding pathology diagnosis encephalopathy in this special patient population. Ultrasound can be very helpful for assessment structural abnormalities associated with such as alterations brain structures (intraventricular hemorrhage, infarcts, hydrocephalus, white matter injury) evaluation morphologic changes. sonography valuable method it provides information about blood flow patterns outcome prediction. NIRS insight into functional aspects activity by measuring tissue oxygenation flow. combination ultrasonography may produce complementary on brain. This review summarizes current state research, discusses advantages limitations, explores future directions improve applicability efficacy.
