Lyme disease (LD) is caused by a group of tick-borne bacteria the genus Borrelia termed Borreliae (LDB). The detection serum antibodies to specific LDB antigens widely used support diagnosis LD. Rodents are ubiquitous and typically unwelcome dwellers in human habitats worldwide, infesting homes, farm fields, agricultural stores potentially shedding disease-causing microbes into the most human-occupied of spaces. Of vertebrate animal taxa that share pathogens with us, rodents abundant diverse, hundreds species confirmed zoonotic hosts, some which have nearly global distributions. However, only 12% rodent known to be sources also infect people, those do now recognized as tending a suite predictable traits. Here, we characterize traits explore them context three emerging or reemerging rodent-borne diseases people: Lassa fever, Lyme disease, plague.

ABSTRACT Introduction Ixodes ricinus , the castor bean tick, is most prevalent tick species in Europe. It favours habitats such as shrubs, deciduous and mixed forests, but can also be found urban environments. Due to its high vector competence, it of enormous veterinary well medical importance, transmitting tick‐borne encephalitis (TBE) virus, Borrelia burgdorferi s. l., causative agent lyme borreliosis, Rickettsia spp. Anaplasma phagocytophilum amongst many other pathogens. In Kosovo, I. predominant a few studies, mostly based on human animal seroprevalences, indicate circulation However, data pathogens are scarce particularly settings. ABSTRACT We analysed the geographic risk of Lyme borreliosis taking into account biogeography tick vectors and carrier hosts, together with environmental anthropogenic factors. Four pathogeographical scenarios were set in order to represent contribution hosts spatial zoonotic risk. For that propose, we built distribution models based on occurrence cases humans ixodid vectors. Besides Ixodes species, considered other ticks potential be These combined through fuzzy logic operators, according criteria stablished each scenario. Ticks are key vectors of zoonotic pathogens, and their expanding distribution in Europe heightens public health concerns. In Bosnia Herzegovina, while tick is well documented, molecular data on tick-borne pathogens remain limited. This study aimed to illustrate the presence diversity these focusing areas with high human activity. (n = 556) were collected April 2022 from eight diverse locations, including urban parks, private properties, rural sites. PCR-based screening was employed detect Anaplasmataceae, Borrelia, Francisella, Piroplasmida, Rickettsia, encephalitis virus (TBEV), subsequent sequencing confirm results. Further characterization Borrelia burgdorferi sensu lato achieved via reverse line blotting (RLB) hybridization sequencing. Ixodes ricinus most prevalent species, followed by Dermacentor marginatus D. reticulatus. Our analysis revealed an overall infection rate 22.1% questing ticks, Rickettsia spp. predominating. Notably, seven species identified I. ricinus, alongside Anaplasma phagocytophilum, helvetica, R. monacensis, co-infections mainly observed peri-urban areas. provides first evidence multiple region, underscoring need for further surveillance risk assessment diseases region.

Ticks play an important role in transmitting many different emerging zoonotic pathogens that pose a significant threat to human and animal health. In Switzerland abroad, the number of tick-borne diseases, particular encephalitis (TBE), has been increasing over last few years. Thus, it remains essential investigate pathogen spectrum ticks rapidly detect initiate necessary measures. To assess risk diseases regions Switzerland, we collected total 10’286 from rural urban areas ten cantons 2021 2022. were pooled according species, developmental stage, gender, collection site, analyzed using next generation sequencing (NGS) quantitative polymerase chain reaction (qPCR). The metagenomic analysis revealed for first time presence Alongshan virus (ALSV) Swiss ticks. Interestingly, pool-prevalence ALSV was higher than (TBEV). Furthermore, several TBEV foci have identified pool prevalence selected non-viral determined.

Lyme borreliosis (LB) is the most prevalent tick-borne human infection in Europe, with increasing incidence during latest decades. Abundant populations of Ixodes ricinus, main vector causative agent, spirochetes from Borrelia burgdorferi sensu lato (Bbsl) complex, have been observed urban and suburban areas general, Slovakia, particularly.
