The capture and utilization of CO2 (CCU) from industrial processes emerges as a strategic approach for effectively managing carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions. Within these strategies, the integration biotechnology, which combines mitigation with production value-added products, is recognized pivotal enabler circular economy sustainability. In this way, biotechnology tool while producing products such biosurfactants. sequestration through activity microorganisms utilizing compound source in their metabolism represents thriving technology. Biosurfactants have various applications, particularly oil industry Microbial Enhanced Oil Recovery (MEOR). However, there are limited studies on biosurfactant CO2-rich atmosphere. For purpose, our collaborative project Petronas Petróleo Brasil LTDA focuses microorganisms. A total 61 bacterial isolates, derived Pre-salt analogous environment, was used screenings different conditions. These isolates part microbial bank Institute Petroleum Natural Resources – IPR PUCRS (Brazil). Screenings were performed (i) NaHCO3 two culture media: nutrient-rich medium restrictive (ii) Emulsification indices measured after cultivation, most promising chosen further characterization DNA sequencing. data showed that higher potential induction; sequencing identified Halomonas Exiguobacterium genus; (iii) one isolate demonstrated emulsification supernatant, indicating application; (iv) tests conducted using atmosphere (5–10%), 253 maintained 60% index at both This under bioinformatics analysis possible new specie or lineage genus. As key conclusions so far, we highlight IPR's atmosphere, ability to grow anaerobic those versatile metabolism. Ongoing work includes optimization, characterization, genetic engineering, potentialize

Products designed to cleanse the skin commonly do so through surfactant action, which leads lowering of surface tension facilitate removal dirt from its surface. Skin cleansers generally come in one two types: soap-based and synthetic detergents, or syndets. While latter can effectively maintain native structure, function integrity, former tends negatively affect by causing barrier disruption, lipid dissolution pH alteration. Despite this, soap is still often preferred, possibly due negative connotations around anything that not perceived as ‘natural’. It is, therefore, important science behind cleansers, especially those for maintenance healthy management common conditions such eczema, be understood both formulators end-users. Here, we carefully weigh advantages disadvantages different types surfactant—the key ingredient(s) cleansers—and provide insight into surfactants’ physicochemical properties, biological activity potential effects. Fine-tuning complex characteristics surfactants successfully lead an ‘optimal’ cleanser simultaneously milder nature, highly effective beneficial, offer minimal interference environmental impact.

The terms discussed in this review—biosurfactants (BSs) and bioemulsifiers (BEs)—describe surface-active molecules of microbial origin which are popular chemical entities for many industries, including food. BSs generally low-molecular-weight compounds with the ability to reduce surface tension noticeably, whereas BEs high-molecular-weight efficient emulsifying abilities. Some other biomolecules, such as lecithin egg yolk, useful natural food products. high toxicity severe ecological impact chemical-based surfactants have directed interest towards BSs/BEs. Interest surfactant formulations consumer anticipation “green label” additives over synthetic or been steadily increasing. an undeniable prospective replacing vast significance formulations. However, commercialization BSs/BEs production has often limited by several challenges, optimization fermentation parameters, downstream costs, low yields, had immense on their broader adoptions different foremost restriction regarding access is not lack cost-effective industrial methods, but a reluctance potential safety, well probable hazards that may be associated them. Most research restricted demonstrations lacks comprehensive assessment safety risk analysis, adoption varied food-related applications. Furthermore, regulatory agencies require extensive exploration analysis secure endorsements inclusion additives. This review emphasizes promising properties BSs/BEs, trailed overview current use formulations, assessment. Finally, we assess challenges upcoming future substituting surfactants.
