The objective of this study was to quantify the impact heatwaves on likelihood ambulance callouts for Australia. A systematic review and meta-analysis conducted retrieve synthesise evidence published from 1 January 2011 31 May 2023 about association between in Different heatwave definitions were used ranging excess heat factor defined as a continuous period with temperatures above certain thresholds (which varied based locations). We included nine papers which met inclusion criteria review. Eight eligible meta-analyses. multilevel meta-analyses revealed that all causes cardiovascular diseases increased by 10% (95% confidence interval: 8%, 13%) 5% 1%, 3%), respectively, during days. Exposure is associated an callouts, there dose–response severity callouts. number days are going increase, will mean increase thereby, spotlighting real burden place our already stressed healthcare system. findings underscore critical need proactive measures, including establishment research initiatives holistic health awareness campaigns, spanning individual community levels system, order create more resilient Australia face heatwave-related challenges.

Fossil fuel combustion and climate change are endangering respiratory health. As these threats increase, healthcare delivery systems must adapt build resilience. In this scoping review, we aim to assess the current landscape of care impacts from change, identifying priorities for future study. We performed a review scientific gray literature, selected institutional websites, understand on healthcare. Medline, Embase, Scopus, Cochrane Library, Lens.org, Google Scholar were searched database inception through 28 July 2023. The initial search yielded 1207 unique articles. Of 67 articles identified as relevant care, 50 (74.6%) had been published between 2020 most studied severe weather exposures extreme heat (n = 31, 46.3%), particulate matter not wildfires 22, 32.8%), 19, 28.4%). Respiratory-related hospital admissions 33, 49.3%) emergency department visits 24, 35.8%) common study outcomes. Few studies potential telehealth services, facility energy distribution, pharmaceutical supplies. Climate is projected increase respiratory-related admissions. Limited research available economic costs, infrastructure effects, supply chain impacts. While increasing strain systems, additional work needed develop evidence-based strategies adaptation.

Objectives This study examines the impact of extreme temperatures on hospital utilization and public health insurance program spending in a country with no universal coverage. Methods Using nationwide U.S. county-level panel data fixed effects model, we estimate annual variations number hot cold days medical reimbursements for low-income elderly beneficiaries insurance. Results Our results show that heat mild increase to beneficiaries, while increases benefit transfer elderly. We find have particularly stronger positive effect admission inpatient care among old poor patients. The fiscal is greater areas more generous income eligibility criteria Conclusion advances our understanding how affect healthcare populations roles plays supporting them from increasing weather risks. findings suggest climate change can augment financial burden governments.

Current efforts to adapt climate change are not sufficient reduce projected impacts. Vulnerability assessments essential allocate resources where they needed most. However, current that use principal component analysis suffer from multiple shortcomings and hard translate into concrete actions. To address these issues, this article proposes a novel data-driven vulnerability assessment within risk framework. The framework is based on the definitions Sixth Assessment Report of Intergovernmental Panel Climate Change, but some definitions, such as sensitivity adaptive capacity, clarified. Heat waves occurred between 2001 2018 in Quebec (Canada) used validate studied impact daily mortality rates per cooling degree-days (CDD) region. Cities worldwide are facing varying degrees of ongoing threats closely tied to climate change. Research is emerging that addresses risks as a pressing issue, especially for vulnerable cities in the Global South; however, there significant lack systematic and application-oriented research on ecosystem-based adaptation urban This study uses Shenyang Northeast China case study, employing multisource data integrated methods examine depict dynamics change amid rapid urbanization. The results indicate decline capacity during period. A framework mainstreaming proposed, identifying specific strategies mitigation policy planning processes Shenyang. It also has significance other draw lessons from. By linking ecosystem dynamics, adaptation, sustainable governance, this bridges gap between practice expands contribution geography-based interdisciplinary integration resilience. More practically, it provides references adapting transitioning development.
