Background Discipline is a crucial aspect of parenting, shaping child development and behaviour. Time-out, widely used disciplinary strategy with strong evidence-base, has recently come under scrutiny concerns about potential adverse effects on children's emotional attachment, particularly for those history adversity. Aims To contribute critical empirical insights to the current controversy surrounding time-out by exploring associations among implementation, parent–child attachment mental health, whether adversity exposure moderated these associations. Method This cross-sectional study utilised nationally representative sample 474 primary caregivers in Australia, children aged 6–8 years, who completed an online survey. Measures included Implementation Time-out Scale, Adverse Life Experiences Primary Attachment Style Questionnaire, Strengths Difficulties Questionnaire Spence Child Anxiety Scale. Results Appropriately implemented was associated enhanced health while inappropriate correlated outcomes. Exposure relationship between implementation well-being, such that exposed were most likely experience enhancement from appropriately time-out.
