Abstract The study explores removal of hexavalent chromium (Cr(VI)) from wastewater using magnetic biochar (MB) Ziziphus jujube seeds (ZJS). Modified was characterized for functional groups, crystalline structure, morphological characteristics, surface area, elemental content, and properties. Batch experiments were conducted considering pH, initial chromium, adsorbent dosage, contact time as controlling factors. demonstrates MB, with its high carbonization saturation, effectively removes 98 % aqueous solutions. Langmuir pseudo‐second‐order models best fit adsorption, 0.3 M HCl recovered more than 95 Cr(VI) other concentrations.

This study aims to explore the effects of biochar ageing on its surface properties and bioavailability heavy metals in soil. The was subjected chemical oxidation/dry–wet cycles (CDWs), oxidation/freeze–thaw (CFTs), natural (NT) analyze changes elemental composition, pH, specific area, pore volume, functional groups. Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR) scanning electron microscopy (SEM) were applied characterize groups microstructure, BCR sequential extraction method employed demonstrate fractionation distribution Cu, Cd, Pb. results showed that CDWs CFTs treatments significantly reduced carbon content (with a maximum reduction 47.70%), increased oxygen (up 49.17%), notably area volume. pH decreased from 9.91 4.92 4.99 for CFTs, respectively. FTIR analysis indicated notable hydroxyl carboxyl groups, SEM revealed severe microstructural damage after treatments. metal exchangeable Pb treatment, reaching 31.40%, 5.25%, 6.79%, In conclusion, affects physicochemical increases metals, raising concerns about long-term remediation effectiveness.
