Abstract
The
presence
of
emerging
contaminants
such
as
pharmaceutical
and
personal
care
products
in
many
aqueous
matrices
have
been
reported.
One
matrix
is
streams
wastewater,
including
wastewater
treatment
plants
inflows
outflows
flow
by-passing
plants.
Their
persistence
arises
from
their
resistant
to
breakdown,
hence
they
may
remain
the
environment
over
long
time,
with
a
potential
cause
adverse
effects
endocrine
disruption,
gene
toxicity,
imposition
sex
organs,
antibiotic
resistance
others
some
aquatic
organisms
exposed
arrays
residues
products.
Among
techniques,
advanced
oxidation
processes
reported
be
better
technique
through
which
these
PPCPs
can
degraded
WWTPs.
Heterogeneous
photocatalysis
using
various
photocatalyst
immobilized
on
solid
support
activated
carbon,
graphene
carbon
nanotubes
AOPs
shown
viable
efficient
method
degradation.
This
because,
performance
most
WWTPs
limited
since
were
not
designed
degrade
toxic
recalcitrant
PPCPs.

The
conventional
waste
management
practices
dispose
or
incinerate
agricultural
and
forestry
waste,
contributing
to
the
environmental
pollution
while
misusing
biomass,
a
valuable
resource
with
great
potential
of
reuse.
In
fact,
cultivation
crops
harvesting
generate
an
abundant
amount
(e.g.,
stones,
shells,
straw)
that
can
be
used
for
wastewater
treatment.
Waste
biomass
may
as:
(i)
adsorbent
in
its
original,
raw
form,
following
ambient
drying
grinding;
(ii)
modified
bio-based
sorbents;
(iii)
source
material
synthesis
activated
carbon
adsorbents
through
carbonization.
Despite
numerous
publications
this
field
examining
removal
wide
range
target
pollutants
(metals,
metalloids,
dyes,
pesticides,
as
well
emerging
contaminants)
by
several
materials,
more
realistic
studies
are
still
required
evaluate
remove
residual
compounds
complex
matrices,
testing
natural
i.e.,
samples
without
spiking
compounds.
This
perspective
paper
highlights
how
integrated-engineering
approach
help
solving
environmental-pollution
issues
related
water,
solid
air
pollution.
Chiefly,
application
locally
produced
bio-waste
treatment
tackles
water
contamination,
decreases
overall
reduces
gas
emissions
caused
transportation,
and/or
disposal.

Pharmaceuticals
have
been
considered
'contaminants
of
emerging
concern'
for
more
than
20
years.
In
that
time,
many
laboratory
studies
sought
to
identify
hazard
and
assess
risk
in
the
aquatic
environment,
whilst
field
searched
targeted
candidates
occurrence
trends
using
advanced
analytical
techniques.
However,
a
lack
systematic
approach
detection
quantification
pharmaceuticals
has
provided
fragmented
literature
serendipitous
approaches.
Evaluation
extent
plethora
human
veterinary
available
requires
reliable
measurement
trace
levels
contaminants
across
different
environmental
compartments
(water,
sediment,
biota
-
which
largely
neglected).
The
focus
on
pharmaceutical
concentrations
surface
waters
other
exposure
media
therefore
limited
both
characterisation
exposome
wildlife
understanding
cause
effect
relationships.
Here,
we
compile
current
approaches
accumulation
data
review
state
research
field.
Our
analysis
provides
evidence
support
'Matthew
Effect'
raises
critical
questions
about
use
analyte
lists
biomonitoring.
We
provide
six
recommendations
stimulate
improve
future
avenues.

In
this
study,
graphene
oxide
(GO),
titanium
dioxide
(TiO2)
and
TiO2/GO
nanocomposites
were
synthesized
as
the
catalysts
for
photoreduction
of
endocrine
disrupting
heavy
metal
ions
in
reverse
osmosis
concentrates
(ROC).
The
morphology,
structure
chemical
composition
these
characterized
by
scanning
electron
microscopy,
transmission
powder
X-ray
diffraction,
Brunauer-Emmett-Teller
analysis,
Barrett-Joyner-Halenda,
Fourier
transform
infrared
spectroscopy
Raman
spectroscopy.
photocatalytic
experiments
showed
that
exhibit
a
higher
performance
than
pure
TiO2
GO.
Under
optimal
conditions,
removal
rates
Cd2+
Pb2+
can
reach
66.32
88.96%,
respectively,
confirming
effectiveness
to
reduce
ROC
resulted
from
combined
adsorption-reduction
with
nanocomposites.
