Hydrothermal carbonization is a thermochemical conversion process that used as an opportunity to convert biomass and organic waste in the presence of water into solid biofuel, liquid, gaseous products. Abstract Developing effective electrodes with commercial-level active mass-loading (> 10 mg cm −2 ) is vital for the practical application of supercapacitors. However, high usually requires thick mass layer, which severely hinders ion/electron transport and results in poor capacitive performance. Herein, a self-standing biochar electrode ca. 40 thickness 800 µm has been developed from basswood. The basswood was treated formamide to incorporate N/O carbon structure, followed by mild KOH activation ameliorate pore size introduce more O species matrix. as-prepared monoliths possess well conductive skeleton, abundant dopant 3D porous are favorable promoting capacitance not only exhibits maximum areal/mass/volumetric specific 5037.5 mF /172.5 F g −1 /63.0 −3 at 2 mA (0.05 A ), but also displays excellent rate performance 76% retention 500 (12.5 symmetric supercapacitor, surpassing state-of-art biomass-based electrode. assembled model can power typical electron devices including fan, digital watch logo made up 34 light-emitting diodes proper period, revealing its potential.
