The utilization of red mud as a catalyst support has been investigated to produce high-value carbon and COx-free hydrogen from natural gas. Nickel impregnation between 10 wt% 20 over generates more active species in the form nickel oxide; however, nickel–red interaction also less spinel (NiFe2O4). itself deactivates quickly during production decomposition methane; nickel-based mud-supported catalysts have shown significant improvement activity results. For instance, with supported by demonstrates stable methane conversion high 75%. reduction kinetics analysis demonstrated lowest activation energy 83 kJ/mol for 20Ni-PRM which played major role excellent stability this catalyst. post-reaction characterization results indicate formation multi-walled nanotubes, evidenced resolution transition electron microscope thermogravimetric analyses.

The continuous growth in world energy demands along with the urgent need for decarbonization are strong motivations development and usage of sustainable fuels. Hydrogen is highly anticipated to replace fossil fuels production, as it one cleanest sources high density per weight. Among hydrogen production methods, catalytic methane pyrolysis (CMP) stands out can contribute process, since only co-products include valuable carbon structures no greenhouse emissions. Cobalt has been shown be a competent metallic material activity relation selectivity towards nanotubes (CNTs), or nanofibers (CNFs). This review article aims offer insights relevant future developments CMP, by reporting advantages decomposition over cobalt catalysts. It provides summary factors that influence both yield growth. More specifically, impacts different metal loadings benefits utilizing support carriers bimetallic systems addressed. Last but not least, findings on most efficient preparation procedures optimum operating conditions also revealed, supported published experimental data.
