Abstract
Digital
twins
are
enjoying
widespread
and
growing
success
in
both
theoretical
practical
applications.
A
recent
development
that
is
gaining
increasing
traction
the
application
of
digital
to
cities.
The
aim
this
article
discuss
whether
there
inherent
limitations
case.
At
present,
scientific
literature
on
urban
dominated
by
“technical”
approaches.
Critical
investigation

from
a
philosophical
perspective

its
beginnings.

Leveraging Digital Twins and Intrusion Detection Systems for Enhanced Security in IoT-Based Smart City Infrastructures

In
this
research,
we
investigate
the
integration
of
an
Intrusion
Detection
System
(IDS)
with
a
Digital
Twin
(DT)
to
enhance
cybersecurity
physical
devices
in
cyber–physical
systems.
Using
Eclipse
Ditto
as
DT
platform
and
Snort
IDS,
developed
near-realistic
test
environment
that
included
Raspberry
Pi
device
Kali
Linux
virtual
machine
perform
common
cyberattacks
such
Hping3
flood
attacks
NMAP
reconnaissance
scans.
The
results
demonstrated
IDS
effectively
detected
Hping3-based
but
showed
limitations
identifying
scans,
suggesting
areas
for
configuration
improvements.
Furthermore,
study
uncovered
significant
system
resource
impacts,
including
high
Central
Processing
Unit
(CPU)
usage
during
SYN
ACK
persistent
memory
after
Network
Mapper
(NMAP)
highlighting
need
enhanced
recovery
mechanisms.
This
research
presents
novel
approach
by
coupling
enabling
real-time
monitoring
providing
dual
perspective
on
both
performance
security.

ABSTRACT
The
increasing
complexity
and
interconnectivity
of
industrial
cyber‐physical
systems
(ICPSs),
while
enhancing
operational
security
reliability,
have
also
introduced
significant
cybersecurity
challenges.
Software‐defined
networking
(SDN),
a
transformative
technology
for
centralized
dynamic
resource
management,
is
particularly
vulnerable
as
control
planes
can
become
single
points
failure.
integration
Digital
Twin
technology,
which
creates
virtual
replicas
physical
real‐time
monitoring
prediction,
further
exacerbates
risks.
To
address
these
issues,
we
present
TwinSec‐IDS,
an
advanced
intrusion
detection
framework
designed
SDN‐Digital‐Twin‐based
ICPS.
TwinSec‐IDS
provides
comprehensive
proactive
detection,
thereby
the
resilience
networks.
This
paper
introduces
ensemble
approach,
leveraging
hybrid
deep
learning
models—such
Bi‐GRU‐CNN,
Bi‐GRU‐LSTM,
Bi‐GRU‐LSTM‐CNN—integrated
with
ensemble‐based
feature
selection
techniques.

employs
weighted
majority
voting
to
combine
predictions
from
multiple
models,
improving
accuracy.
ensure
optimal
selection,
incorporates
explainable
AI
filter
methods,
including
mutual
information,
chi‐square
tests,
correlation
coefficients,
aggregated
through
mechanism.
demonstrates
high
accuracy
in
detecting
categorizing
anomalies

evaluations
show
that
significantly
improves
ICPS,
addressing
critical
concerns

processes
safer
more
reliable.
