BACKGROUND Important levels of pain are reported upon discharge from major surgery with a risk becoming chronic. Further, individuals express the need for support in managing after discharge. However, very few studies address management interventions post-discharge phase including undergoing total joint arthroplasty. We have conducted pilot randomized controlled trial testing brief mindfulness intervention targeting people at chronic post-surgical 2 weeks surgery. Although we proposed was judged as acceptable based on ratings obtained through questionnaire, nuanced perceptions why and how it is considered critical refining intervention. Moreover, acceptability perioperative context remains generally unknown even more setting. OBJECTIVE The purpose this study to use qualitative data explore individual perception 4-week MBI following METHODS A description used assess patients’ preliminary version assessment done end (6 surgery). Records screened against predefined criteria quality assessed A MeaSurement Tool Assess Reviews (AMSTAR-2) Joanna Briggs Institute (JBI) Critical Appraisal Checklist Reviews. study protocol was co-developed with key stakeholders registered on the Open Science Framework. From 941 records, 51 published between 2000 2023 generally moderate quality, targeting CYP 0 25 years, included in our narrative summary. DMHIs delivered variety ways, including online video calls, apps various combinations, underpinned mostly by cognitive behaviour therapy. supported different problems, but symptoms anxiety and/or depression. Although effective, some studies reported mixed results limited evidence when focusing longer-term outcomes. Other benefits reduced costs time investments families, increased accessibility acceptability support. An ecological momentary intervention (EMI) is a digital geared toward intervening in daily life to enhance the generalizability and validity, be able intervene moments most needed. Identifying working mechanisms use might generate insights improve interventions. Methods The present study investigates acceptability an intervention, named SELFIE, targeting self-esteem youth exposed childhood trauma, evaluates under what circumstances these do or not come into play. A realist evaluation approach was used developing initial program theories (data: expert interviews stakeholders focus group), subsequently testing 15 with participants, group therapists, debriefing questionnaire), refining them. Results SELFIE offered through smartphone application enabling constant availability thereby increasing feasibility. When on their personal smartphone, this enhanced sense privacy less hesitance engaging app, leading increased disclosure active participation. Further, facilitates practice skills life, supporting repeated exercises different situations effect. Buffering against technical malfunction seemed important decrease its possible negative effects. Conclusions This our understanding EMIs, such as feasibility, which experienced facilitating context. Hereby, current contributes relatively limited research field. For field move forward, use, EMIs need understood. It strongly recommended that alongside efficacy trials EMI specific target mechanisms, process conducted investigating use.
