Biosecurity in poultry farms represents the first line of defense against entry and spread pathogens that may have animal health, food safety, economic consequences. The aim this study was to assess biosecurity compliance located a densely populated area North East Italy. A total 259 (i.e., broilers, turkeys, layers) were surveyed between 2018 2019 using standardized checklists, differences sectors years (only for turkey farms) tested significance. Among three sectors, showed highest compliance. Farm hygiene, infrastructure condition, cleaning disinfection tools, procedures measures most complied with. Some deficiencies observed cleanliness farm hygiene lock broiler farms, as well presence house layer an adequate coverage built-up litter farms. In conclusion, highlighted generally high level visited (probably due stringent national regulation integration industry) identified some still need be improved.

Meat has become a controversial topic in public debates, as it involves multiple sustainability dimensions. Here, we review global meat consumption trends and the various dimensions involved, including economic, social, environmental, health, animal welfare issues. much larger environmental climate footprints than plant-based foods can also be associated with negative health effects. Technological options help to increase of production, but changes are required well. At least high-income countries, where people consume lot on average, notable reductions will important. However, vegetarian lifestyles for all would not necessarily best option. Especially low-income nutritious available or affordable year-round. Also, livestock production is an important source income many poor households. More research needed how promote technological behavioral while managing trade-offs.

Cultured meat involves producing from animal cells, not slaughtered animals. This innovation has the potential to revolutionize industry, with wide implications for environment, health and welfare. The main purpose of this paper is stimulate some economic research on cultured meat. In particular, includes a prospective discussion demand supply It also discusses early results environmental impacts meat, emphasizing promises (e.g., regarding reduction in land use) but uncertainties. then argues that moral improvement compared conventional Finally, it regulatory issues, need more public support innovation.

There are increasingly strong reasons to move away from industrial animal agriculture for the good of environment, animals, our personal health, and public health. Plant-based product alternatives (PB-APAs) represent a highly feasible way reduce consumption, since they address core consumer decision drivers taste, price, convenience. PB-APAs tend displace demand products, not other plant foods, more able do this compared whole foods alone. This paper reviews 43 studies on healthiness environmental sustainability products. In terms sustainability, sustainable products across range outcomes including greenhouse gas emissions, water use, land outcomes. healthiness, present number benefits, generally favourable nutritional profiles, aiding weight loss muscle synthesis, catering specific health conditions. Moreover, several ways in which can further improve their using optimal ingredients processing. As conventional meat producers into plant-based consumers policymakers should resist naturalistic heuristics about instead embrace benefits animals.

Cell-cultured meat and seafood offer a sustainable opportunity to meet the world's increasing demand for protein in climate-changed world. A responsible, data-driven approach assess demonstrate safety of cell-cultured can support consumer acceptance help fully realize potential these products. As an initial step toward thorough demonstration safety, this review identifies hazards that could be introduced during manufacturing, evaluates applicability existing assessment approaches, highlights research priorities safe commercialization. Input was gathered from members cultured industry, researchers, regulators, food experts. series workshops were held with 87 industry representatives researchers create modular manufacturing process diagram, which served as framework identify chemical biological along steps affect final product. The ongoing COVID-19 pandemic has caught the attention of global community and rekindled debate about our ability to prevent manage outbreaks, epidemics, pandemics. Many alternatives are suggested address these urgent issues. Some them quite interesting, but with little practical application in short or medium term. To realistically control infectious diseases, human, animal, environmental factors need be considered together, based on One Health perspective. In this article, we highlight most effective initiatives for prevention diseases: vaccination; sanitation; vector control; social programs that encourage a reduction population growth; urbanization; safe sex stimulation; testing; treatment sexually vertically transmitted infections; promotion personal hygiene practices; food safety proper nutrition; human contact wildlife livestock; inequalities; disease surveillance; biodiversity preservation. Subsequently, article highlights impacts genetics susceptibility infections progression, using SARS-CoV-2 infection as study model. Finally, actions focused mitigation outbreaks epidemics importance conservation ecosystems translational ecology public health strategies also discussed.

The COVID-19 pandemic has stalled and rolled back progress on Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Ecosystem services (ESs), defined as the contributions of ecosystems to human well-being, underpin achievement SDGs. To promote SDG in post-pandemic era, we teased out links between ESs SDGs while examining impact COVID-19. We found that benefited all SDGs, yet man-made pressures led degradation their services. There is broad consensus virus lurks degraded generates spillover due interference. global lockdown/restriction disrupted flow altered demand, threatening efforts for suggested: 1) study association traceability ESs-SDGs under pandemic; 2) prioritize pressing issues such health care, livelihood, resource security long run, should human-nature harmony achieve SDGs; 3) enhance through local community efforts, accounting, ecosystem restoration. Animal agriculture presents major sustainability challenges. Alternative meat (alt-meat) products (e.g., plant-based and cultured meat) are substitutes for animal products, made using innovative food technologies. The potential environmental impacts of have been well-explored but the social economic alt-meat received less attention, particularly as they relate to rural communities. This paper addresses research question: What opportunities challenges producers in US? We conducted semi-structured interviews with 37 expert informants, including representatives companies, non-profit organizations, funding agencies, governmental beef, soy, pea sectors, well researchers farmers. Our revealed a range ways which sectors might present or threats US. Opportunities included growing crops ingredients feedstock meat; raising animals genetic material producing bioreactors at farm level; transitioning into new sectors; market blended hybrid animal- products; value around regenerative high-animal welfare farming. Threats loss livelihood income ranchers livestock farmers feed; barriers emerging possibility exclusion from those sectors. Interviewees also identified roles universities government organizations that could help maximize benefits minimize risks Finally, most interviewees thought it likely would form an additional protein captured some all anticipated demand rather than one displaced entirely. As such, emergence alongside may offer more choices terms markets sell what forms production adopt pursue. identifies numerous gaps, natural scientists usefully apply their attention.
