Abstract Effective modern conservation depends on active stakeholder participation. Although engagement is increasing, the extent of this and successful application outcomes to science management varies regionally among types fisheries. A collaborative model that emphasizes knowledge coproduction with stakeholders better identifies research needs threats, influences policy outcomes. Stakeholder integration can be facilitated by nongovernment organizations, such as boundary organizations. Bonefish Tarpon Trust a science-based, organization founded in 1998 recreational fishers fishing guides focuses marine fisheries Caribbean Sea western North Atlantic Ocean. The engages directly, incorporating their perspectives identify concerns, shape research, contribute data collection, disseminate information, work resource managers scientific researchers address needs. Abstract Long-term continuous datasets that record fishery catch are key to predicting and managing changes in fisheries. Unfortunately, long-term rare for recreational fisheries, which hinders our ability understand within these Here we use several unconventional datasets, including tournament tagging program data, assess composition over time the Australian east coast marlin fishery. We found significant species size of time. In 1930s, was solely comprised striped ( Kajikia audax ) black Istiompax indica marlin. Black proportionally dominated 1940s 1980s, but proportions blue Makaira nigricans increased significantly from 1980s until present. Currently, is primarily black, a lesser extent Declines mean weight were also evident 1930s 1980s. Technological advances improving offshore access may have driven composition. Our results demonstrate potential change technology gear reshaping This highlights how particularly those offshore, changed with time, future technological dramatically alter fisheries globally. ABSTRACT Flats ecosystems are dynamic, shallow, nearshore marine environments that interconnected and provide immense ecological socio-economic benefits. These habitats support a diversity of fish populations various fisheries, yet they increasingly threatened by anthropogenic stressors, including overfishing, habitat degradation, coastal development, the cascading effects climate change. Effective management restoration essential but often missing for flats ecosystems. Despite navigating landscape imperfect knowledge these systems, decisive action implementation protection is currently needed through policy practice. We present comprehensive set 10 strategic guiding principles necessary integrating conservation flat include calls ecosystem-based management, adaptive strategies leverage diverse partnerships, scientific research, legislative initiatives, local traditional knowledge. Drawing on successes in other environmental realms, we emphasize importance evidence-informed approaches to address complexities uncertainties aim advance restoration, promoting integrity strengthening resilience important environments.

ABSTRACT Objective: The Bonefish Albula vulpes is a popular sport fish found throughout the tropical western Atlantic Ocean. In south Florida, concerns have been raised over population decline of this species, primarily attributed to degradation their nearshore habitats. While foraging and spawning habitat types identified protective actions taken, early life history associations for yet be described. presence more broadly distributed cryptic congeners, A. goreensis undescribed cf. vulpes, also with undefined preferences, has complicated previous efforts. objective study was leverage long-term state agency monitoring Florida estuaries describe parse nursery habitats spp. better inform conservation efforts targeted towards recovering protecting fishery. Methods: We summarized spatiotemporal patterns, environmental tolerances, associations. used generalized additive model identify realized community within Indian River Lagoon. Data were sourced from Fish Wildlife Conservation Commision statewide Fisheries-Independent Monitoring program. Post-time series unassociated sampling provided specimens genetic species identification allowed descriptions applied species-level context. Results: From 1996 2019, 522 juvenile 124 larval caught using multiple gears, than half catches coming most frequently captured sand mud bottom no vegetation or low-structure sea grass (shoal Halodule wrightii). Juveniles tolerant substantial variability in water conditions estuaries, ranges modeled Lagoon temperatures 21.3–33.5°C, dissolved oxygen 2.2–13.7 mg/L, salinity 18.0–38.9‰. Within Lagoon, catch per unit effort increased significantly 2011 onward, coinciding mass die-off event.
